Acorns, 19 Jul 2021Not everyone is indoctrinated by oled is best. I for one pr... moreI'm on my 3rd LCD display phone after having OLED years ago and I just couldn't care less. Sure OLED has some benefits like smaller thickness and blackest blacks, but good IPS doesn't really have massive problems with blacks. At least on iPhone XR the blacks are still black enough that I don't even think about it.

LifesGood, 19 Jul 2021Exactly my point. Or how about this crazy idea: You literal... moreNot quite, though it would be a compromise if they made like 16 pixels (which should be enough to form a dot shape) to blink every few seconds in a corner of the OLED screen in whatever color to tell you if you have missed calls or e-mails waiting. They could even go crazy and display more dots to tell you about more events waiting.

AnonD-762416, 19 Jul 20211: LCD is dead on anything except for low end.
2: It maybe... moreSorry no, OLED still has permanent burn in issues (as noticed in store preview models, mostly of galaxy s phones after a few months being on all the time). One thing i can say that i liked better about OLEDs was a more proportional brightness slider, but that may as well be software in collaboration with silicon lottery.
The image looks just as good on a good LCD panel as it does on an oled. True, the blacks are brighter, but lcds are also better for the eyes since the leds are illuminating the screen and not being produced from the screen. Considering i keep my phones longer than a year or two LCD is king, even if it has some flaws.
Plus i'm no pleb to buy everything i'm told to without thinking it through. If phones are gonna stop having LCDs and OLED won't be at the pint where it can produce an even image for at least 15 years then i'm not gonna waste my money on tech that makes me poorer and others richer.

On watch AOD is a must because without it , it actually looks pretty stupid wering a blank watch and wiggling around with wrist to activate it. Just being on at all times is more convenient as it then actually serves as a watch and also looks really nice. On phone however, I actually can't think of any good use of it unless Apple will do something wild with it (probably not). Just give us back the damn RGB notification LED light. I loved that thing. It's cheap solution that can let you know what type of notifications you have waiting so you know whether it's just an e-mail waiting or a missed call by using different LED color.

AnonD-986036, 19 Jul 2021Iphone X and above iphone that use OLED s should get AODJust OLED is not quite enough. LTPO type of OLED is super efficient and can have adaptive refresh rate from 1Hz to whatever is the upper limit, usually 60Hz or 120Hz. On iPhone X, they could do this, but it would refresh at 60Hz. It would be quite a power drain. Unless they made it only activate when phone is raised, but that is already reserved for phone waking up the display entirely.

Acorns, 19 Jul 2021How come reviewers always say AOD doesn't work on LCD ... more1: LCD is dead on anything except for low end.
2: It maybe "worked", but it was useless as it was so dark you couldn't see anything in daylight.
