Welcome to 2012, Apple.
I can already see the lawsuits because Apple thinks they reinvented AOD.

Moto Display (ideal ambient display), Moto Gestures (twist to camera, chop to flashlight, etc), Moto Voice (always-on assistant, if you need it) & so on...

sq2013, 19 Jul 2021So that leads me to the question.... what's the point ... more”An OLED display have the following advantages over an LCD display:
Improved image quality - better contrast, higher brightness, fuller viewing angle, a wider color range and much faster refresh rates.
Lower power consumption.
Simpler design that enables ultra-thin, flexible, foldable and transparent displays
Better durability - OLEDs are very durable and can operate in a broader temperature range”

I would rather a moto ambient display style solution though. It always seemed the perfect balance to me.

-Trix-, 19 Jul 2021”I for one prefer LCD screens over oled and yes I've o... moreSo that leads me to the question.... what's the point of using an oled then? Just use an LCD. Oleds don't have any benefit in materials for durability. What differentiates is the better contrasts and the way whites are whiter and blacks are blacker.

And not a moment too soon! Their press release will undoubtedly say that they invented the always on display, lol.

I know what you mean, but i don’t think you have owned iPhone with OLED?, iPhone OLED doesn’t look like typical OLED because Apple own optimization, it looks lot more like LCD, it’s not super punchy and not oversatured. Earlier OLED tend to be oversatured and especially the Red colour is just too red and it ”hurts” my eyes too. Yellow was difficult colour too. But i have zero problems with iPhone OLED, it looks really natural and balanced with every colours, nothing popping out like usually with OLED.

Anonymous, 19 Jul 2021Sorry no, OLED still has permanent burn in issues (as notic... moreI've been called a troll for having the audacity to say that not everyone likes oled screens over LCD! Screen burn IS still an issue with oled screens, even high end samsungs plus they easier to scratch and break. Also unless you use a dark background they actually use more power as it has to light up more pixels. And you get a sharper image on equivalent LCD to oled screen. Anyway everyone likes what they like and that's fine, just hope LCDs don't disappear altogether especially midrangers as I don't buy flagships. Peace ✌️

Oh really…why??? I’m not always looking at my screen therefore I do not wish it to always be on.
Some form of ambient display (that isn’t lift to wake thank you very much) I’d find more appropriate.
