-that couldn't be farther from the truth. Maybe that statement is valid after some years, but certainly not right now.
I'd give probably 5+ yrs (ideally a decade, so maybe after 2030) for ARM to replace the a sizeable chunk of desktops & laptops (laptops probably more due to obvious efficiency & cost reasons).

Also not sure you realise but work apps or not just office & photoshop (though obviously office is a major player & that's why ARM will mostly replace ultrabook & NUC/thin client type devices first which are only intended for light-moderate use like the MBA)
But good luck running any other professional or engineering/science related app on your puny ARM laptop with awful graphics for the foreseeable future (assuming these apps even support ARM in the first place).

There will be no 14" MacBook pro.

Intel processors do not support higher resolutions needed to keep constant the dots per inch without a performance drawback and they will not sacrifice the speed.

The day when Apple replaced the totally incapable iPadOS with macOS for their iPad Pro, that will be the day when I will definitely leave my laptop behind. At the moment, only normies believe in Apple's marketing trick.

Once Windows on ARM properly launches in November, it will start slicing X86 market share as important apps like office suit and Adobe apps are already starting to get ported.

There is also ARM64EC translator with minimal overhead for gaming with support for Direct X12 ultimate from Qualcomm and NVIIDA on ARM

The biggest enforcer begind all this is NVIDIA, as they are pushing to end X86 dominance and by pursuing ARM strategy.

They are already planning Grace GPU for cloud in 2024 with mainstream PC segment the following year

RTX has been ported to ARM now it needs Windows on ARM support.

As long as Intel and AMD are slacking NVIDIA

Provided Apple continues its walled garden approach, the M chips will get hyped and then be forgotten. The A chips have been leading class for a while now, Snapdragon is still alive and kicking.

I certainly am not abandoning my work-critical x86 software, "Wintel", and the reliability I've become accustomed to for the hubris of "milli-second faster performance."

And I'd be replacing my Mac (it serves as backup) with the new 16 Pro when it is released.

You netizens have to realize most people offline don't give a flying f*ck about M1 and whatever else Apple has in store (or pretty much chips in general, as long as they're fast enough). PC will remain the top dog for much longer than M chips are newsworthy.
