    808 has front side illuminated sensor. Hece it was black at night. 1020 has BSI sensor, which could catch light in dark.
    But 1020 reduced pixel size. If only they were 1.4um bsi sensor, it would easily beat today's phones in photo capture amd 1080p

      Iirc 1020 was when Nokia/Microsoft used amount of higher post processing than 808. Not 'computational photography' level post processing, but high enough for that time. The philosophy was different. People (a very small) were divided. Some liked it, some hated it.

              amazing how far ahead of everyone Nokia was then. They were so far, people weren't ready for it, but they knew it the phone camera crazy was coming. Kudos Nokia.

                  Nokia (Lumia) still has one of the best (or better) foliage and grass rendering I've seen from a camera-it really looks as it'd have irl

                      The pictures from the Nokia is quite surprisingly good actually, and for a phone that was released 8 years ago.

                              GSMA seems to heading in the right direction since we already got the 808PV and now the 1020. I've been begging for a revisit of the 950XL's camera.
                              ALSO, PLS use the Pro Mode and/or Rich-Capture to eke out the best out of that camera, I hate it when someone simply uses Auto on both old & new phones, bcoz it's obvious which would win. The older tech should be tested with everything at it's disposal bcoz even the very few people who might still have such phones lying around probably know their gear & might choose to not shoot in Auto. It deserves any help it can get (from within ofc, no tripods,etc)

                                nokia thought they are camera company. Please at least make a usable phone before making mediocre camera.

                                  its ok..... the 1020 has small sensor. No wonder it take such shitty photo.

                                    Smartphone photography really took off with Google's computational photography back in 2016. I still prefer the contrast and colors of my Pixel 3 photos over my iPhone 12 mini's.

                                    What I don't like is when we update the camera software, it ends up worse to make the newer phones look better. My LG G5 used to take excellent photos. Now I'll see green lines in trying to take shots in the dark. That's with the Google cam. It's worse with the LG default one.

                                        A comparison with the Google Nexus 5x in its HDR+ On mode (not the default mode) would be nice. It is still the reference for daylight image quality, captures extremely accurate sunsets, is extremely sharp and definitely outperforms the Pixel 3a daylight image quality (I have both) and it usually combines 8 raw files for every jpg.
