How about comparing the best today’s camera phone with a comparable (old) camera, like Sony Alpha?

Honestly speaking this is the main reason, for which I hate Microsoft. They took a good company and destroyed it completely.

Daylight colors from Nokia look more natural, it was the same for also cheap line as 520, their color and HDR science is just great. Shame MS gave up media devices and went just for creative consumers. At least they did not give up completely.

The only good phones they've released were the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8/8 Sirocco, and 9 Pureview. The rest are disappointing imo.

It annoys me to no end that almost a decade has gone by, and neither Microsoft/Nokia had opened themselves to "license" those PureView algorithms.

Rkm, 25 Jul 2021You guys should go back even further and review Nokia N8. I... moreYup, such a rich history Nokia had, a shame HMD didn't step up to the mark. It'd have been better if it humbly gave up the Nokia licensing out of respect when things starting going downhill post 8.1/7.2, rather than pushing out half-hearted phones without any thoughts

Sure that you can do multiple adjustments with the image processing algorithm, but it can go too far and ruin a great photo. At the end of the day, a great camera sensor with a great optic is still relevant.

Because Nokia wants to decrease the camera bump of that 41MP sensor, they decrease the sensor size. I really find that a shame because they can use the same 808 PureView sensor but give it BSI sensor technology and OIS while at the same time eliminating that camera bump by giving a bigger battery. That will still be the king to beat today.

What I really love about the Lumia is that even with its tiny native pixel size and the noise under full 38MP resolution, it still manages to show natural colour and crisp detail with no oversharpening effect at all. By contrast, the Xiaomi is a complete oversharpened mess, especially with the trees and leaves. The only element where I will give a win to Xiaomi is dynamic range, you can definitely tell the difference from the lowlight photos.

You guys should go back even further and review Nokia N8. It had mechanical shutter and ND filter.
