A close friend uses everything until completely broken. He has over 600,000 miles on his Volvo wagon and just had his Lumia 1020 rebuilt with a new battery. Both are working just fine now. If there were more people like him there would be less waste, less pollution.... and people would have more savings.

Dynamic range is a ratio of lightest and darkest tones in an image and it can be increased by merging multiple frames(because that would make the image less noisy and shadows become more recoverable). DR is not determined by the sensor specs or characteristics alone.

Maybe the only thing that is near to the camera quality and ''authenticity'' of Lumia 1020 today is the Xperia 1/5 line, as they don't use a Quad Bayer sensor. It is also the only brand that focuses on a ''camera-like'' experience on a phone, a bit reminiscent of what old Cyber-shot's tried to do.

kanaaka, 26 Jul 2021in dynamic range contest, maybe the stacking algorithm on m... moreDR is characteristic of the sensor.
Each one has a max it can output.
Value can change bit with tweaks at circuit levels.

DR decreases when you go from raw to jpeg.
Phones do not have even 10.
Do not believe those crazy two here that say some phones have 18.
Not even medium format camera (sensor can be near 3x larger than full frame) can reach 18.

Few Cameras can do stacking too. Few do in-body , while other require computer software.
                  DR does not increase.
You are in the end just underexposing the foreground at some level in favor of background.
Of course at expensive of correct WB, reason professional do not use this option.

The Lumia 1020 had Windows Phone 8 as the underlying OS.

The Windows Phone 8 / 10 Mobile was THE BEST OS on a smartphone, but the Fundroids and iCheeeep resented Microsoft and its World-beating OS. The World is at a loss from the retirement of Windows 10 Mobile.

But one cannot keep a hibernating beast down-and-out for too long, so expect a full blown Windows 11 implementation on the mobile form-factor in the not too distant future (dependent on an x86-64 chip that possesses both power and battery longevity), along with the recently disclosed info that Android apps shall run on Windows 11.

Watch this space for the upcoming Windows 11 Surface Foldable.

Nokia 1020 is better at capturing details in daylight but that's pretty much the only area it excels at. On Mi 11 Ultra, colors are more natural, dynamic range is wider, night photos are way better, and raw images are less noisy and more usable even at higher sensitivity level. Everyone who is saying Nokia is an overall winner needs a reality check!
