02 August 2021
The sensor, alongside a 200 MP sibling, will be announced in September.

If you shift the quad Bayer image by one pixel shifted diagonally, you get different rggb views, what vu helps with zoom and pixel accuracy compared to centering on the quad grouping of the colors. It shouldn't be as good as real Bayer, as that uses different neighbouring colours to demosaic. But this still has the same and repeat colors are around it, affecting accuracy. But, this still means, that quad Bayer photographs at full resolution, should be usable.

whatever the sensors are, they better be very very good, because, currently, Huawei's P50 / Pro and what Xiaomi has is wiping the floor with Samsung.

Even if some Android manufcaturers delay their updates or give bi-monthly/tri-monthly, there isn't such any noticeable difference in day to day usage. My phone came with Android 9, it's running on Android 11 now, the next version would be final for me. Except the transparent notification bar I haven't seen any changes for my everyday tasks.

Samsung did it wrong when they switched to plastic backs for their Flagship series.

But your iPhone doesn't even have 1080p Panel, Android phones costing 1/4 of your XR have that. The same goes for your 5W charger. Phones costing 1/4 of XR come with 18W Fast Charging Adapters.

Enjoy your low resolution "Premium Phone".

"but with RGBW there’s now a white LED that assists with pure white light"
Lmfao, LED? Inside an image sensor? You guys gotta be kidding me, GSMArena..

"In theory, it should provide improved highlight rendition in high-contrast scenes"
Since white pixels saturate much faster than RGB pixels, this isn't very accurate. It's shadows that will get boosted (and become less noisy), not the highlights.

[deleted post]Because all you do is rave about hardware features and hardware specs 24/7 and literally ignore software side of things and when confronted you all start babbling about late features like mindless drones, like you don't even understand what software support even means. Then again I'm not surprised when you get all updates months late and stop getting them after just 3 in 99% of devices.

It's also funny you constantly brush against the fact I still use iPhone XR that's 3 years old now and I owned it basically since launch back in 2018 like some sort of "gotcha". It's such a lame pathetic attempt to discredit me it's hilarious. I use it because it's still super fast and does all I need really well. And I still get all the updates, features late or not, the moment they are released I get them without months of waiting for update to "seed" in my country. And I'll be getting them for several more years. How's your all out spec'd Android that totally embarrasses my iPhone XR doing after 3 years lol? No more updates? Not even security updates? Ooooo shame.

[deleted post]Yeah, what about S22+ next year getting plastic too? That's all thanks to your shameless defending of this blatant garbage cost cutting. Can't wait for day when S23 Ultra for 1500€ also gets plastic back and you'll all be joyful and happy about it. Can't wait that day. Really.

Actually there should be, although we will see how they handle it, since Huawei is difficult due to the light input of their RYYB, an RGBW should receive up to 3 times more light in white and gray colors, VIVO also present one in the past with a 160% improvement in light capture, but I do not know how much improvement will be in this Samsung, if it is launched on the market, Sony tried in the past and then they returned to RGB

Oh yeah, until the Exynos 2100 starts up and turns into a stove, have you seen the drop peaks after it accelerates? It's crazy, even the S20U beats the S21U after it throttles, not to mention its wonderful 6 hours of SoT, and its fast charge of an incredible 25W, it is a machine destroying flagships.

Wayne Morellini, 02 Aug 2021There is another reason. By having 16 pixels in one, they ... moreThe old Nokia actually applies an oversampling technique. It applies pixel binning without modifying the existing RGGB Bayer array arrangement. By contrast, Quad Bayer and Nona Bayer sensors modify the Bayer array arrangement so that it will have only one colour on one side. While both solutions produce higher effective pixel size (Nokia 808 PureView's 5MP oversampled photo produced 4.0µm effective pixel size), the former allows for true lossless zoom as the array colour arrangement is not modified.

No, wrong. The diodes of sensor pixels are like LEDs, but they don't emit light, unless you modify the sensor. RGBW means that there is a pixel that is sensitive to R, G and B. Like a black and white sensor for visible light. There shouldn't be any improved highlight rendition as far as I know. It just captures slightly more light, so slightly better low light performance.
