WOW! I cant imagine the number of droids globally. If GS3 alone sold 30M devices (ICS out of the box) and say 2M upgraded to JB, how many devices are using GB, 200M? And GB users will probably never receive an update.

Anonymous, 02 Nov 2012This is simple proof that Android's growth is actually driv... moreThose cheap phones are about to get steamrolled by the Nexus 4. It's exactly why Google priced it so low. The Nexus 4 will help get the cheap phones off the market, and their users on to a substantially more modern device.
A year from now. Gingerbread will be at 25% or less. And in two years, the entire user base will ICS, Jellybean and Key Lime Pime. That will do wonders for developers.

Wind, 02 Nov 2012This is not good. Google should have waited until Jellybean... moreAndroid 4.2 is Jellybean. It's only a minor revision.

Hopefully the Nexus 4 will turbocharge the growth of Jellybean.
I don't even know why anybody would buy any other Android handset but the Nexus 4. $300 off-contract for a phone on par with any top of the line device out there? What's not to like?

Surely much of this is due to the fact that Jelly Bean updates aren't even available for many devices. Heck, some devices are still waiting on updates to Ice Cream Sandwich.

There's three android phones in this house, one of them being galaxy s3 the other two are at least 2 years old. All three run JB ironically the older phones run the newer 4.1.2 variant while the new phone is "only" on 4.1.1

Wow, this is a surprise. As said below it does look like Android is getting a lot sales through low to mid range. That's not a bad thing though! Gingerbread is still a great OS.

Its all a mess until a new firmware will be running all devices from entry to superphone and beyond to gaming systems, just the use of additional code for each devices requirements and memory needs to simplify it all

This is simple proof that Android's growth is actually driven more by the cheap low end phones running Gingerbread. Not good news.
Only Samsung seems to be profiting out of the whole Android deal if you ask me.
