WD, 05 Nov 2012I was excited while I was reading this, but then when I wen... moreBecause this is meant to be a camera, not a phone but you can still access apps like viber or whatsapp to call people. The camera quality is decent for most people even better than the Nokia 808. It also has the playstore where u can access apps, wallpapers and widgets. Sure there maybe other cameras for cheaper price and better quality pictures, but ask yourself what can those cameras do apart from taking pictures? WhAt happens when your phone runs out of batteries and your stranded somewhere? Can you take pictures and upload them straight away to blogs or facebook? The battery could last longer on this camera for internet usage.

If your looking for a good quality camera then just buy a dslr, but if you want a decent camera with access to entertainment and new technology then go for galaxy camera.

Anonym, 05 Nov 2012lol... this is pro camera digital, not amateur digicam like 808: It's clear you don't understand anything about cameras... The specs of this camera aren't better than entry level P&S... It definitely isn't for pros... Nokia 808's camera beated a micro 4/3 camera, I don't see why should this camera offer competition to Nokia 808, having a sensor half the size of the 808's sensor and Samsung lenses which are far less impressive than Carl Zeiss lenses (Samsung uses Carl Zeiss optics in their high-end cameras)... Whith this price (which is the same as the 808) it would be just stupid to buy an entry level camera instead of a full speced phone that has a much better camera(If you love Android, you'll need a Android smartphone too)...
And about the optical zoom, that's just marketing... At full zoom, that tiny sensor will find it difficult to capture any photons....

In my opinion the idea is brilliant, and dedicated fully functional camera which can be compared to any point and shoot camera and adding the functionality of Android on top of it. What can be bad in that.
With 3G connectivity its adds more features then any other point n shoot camera I guess.
and its just a start to a new trend... many others are going to adopt the same soon :)

I miss the old timer Nokia N93 which was the 1st mobile phone with optical zoom 3X which was impressive those days & was the 1st to record video DVD quality 480p ... WHY SAMSUNG WOULDNT DO A MOBILE PHONE LIKE DAT

I know you're a sammy fanboy and of course, an LG hater, but you shouldn't forget that LG takes the credit in releasing technology first.

Anonym, 05 Nov 2012lol... this is pro camera digital, not amateur digicam like 808: With all respect, Nokia 808 is a "mobile" phone with a good camera, this is just a camera. If there is a comparison it would be to other cameras, take the Samsung model mentioned in the article for example, it is cheaper yet (from what I just checked after reading about it here) it is a very good one, for sure better than this one. Going to compare against the usual suspects (canon, nikon... etc point and shoot) I can guarantee you that there are far better options for the price range

I was excited while I was reading this, but then when I went and checked the specs sheet I found that it does not support voice calls... I'm a bit confused here, why would I (or any one else) hold a camera in his poket that has runs Android OS?
My mind went at first to compare it with the Nokia 808 PureView as it is a potential candidate for me at the moment, and I thought it would be a smarter choice to go for the Galaxy Camera (despite being much thicker and about twice the weight of the Nokia 808), but again (and to make it clear, I'm not attacking this device, just thought that there might be something that I missed or got it wrong) it would have been useful if it supports calls, this way you have a mobile phone ready for a amazing quality photos in your pocket, but it's pointless to carry a thick camera in addition to the mobile phone, and if that is an actual option, the proposed price would easily get me an advanced camera, so the only thing making this different is running Andriod which wouldn't make it a better camera for sure and since I'll be already holding my mobile phone with it, then I can do any surfing online or whatever other task through the mobile. If any one could enlighten me I'd really appreciate it, because the way I see it now, this is just useless over priced device and that's not the trend of Samsung as far as I have experienced in their mobile phones/tablets/phoneblets...etc. If it is as I understood it, then it should be having an "Apple" logo on it to match the "I'm just for show off, don't try to find an actual use of me" trend they follow.

$640 for a point and shoot? I just...noo....you can get a low-mid end SLR for that range.
