Isn't this the usual fate water-resistant rated phones? It's a shame but it would have only been a shock if it was "easily" repairable and had a water-resistant rating.

I've owned three smartphones in the last six years and none of them needed to be repaired. I buy solid hardware and take care of my devices.

As an Engineer I can tell you that this is called "planned obsolescence by the accountants", a fancy name for "we want you to buy a new phone when the battery stops working". So, depending on usage, we know that you will be recycling (to the cellphone dump) every 3-4 years. Its part of Google attempt to maximize the environmental impact of their business.

And making it hard to repair is the point for the brands so you wont repair it and buy new phone.

This coming from a line of phones known for their repairability (among other things) is a big disappointment. The Pixel 5a is a good phone otherwise, but this... Yeah.
