*Ultrasonic is the best because of all it can do, on top of being the most secure and reliable if properly implemented, optical one is BY FAR the worse.
*It isn't about what YOU prefer or what YOU think is the best, it is about the FACT that some do prefer it on the back, others prefer it on the side, others prefer it on the display.
*No one yet, as the ultrasonic isn't marginally better than the capacitive one yet, so it isn't of any use except for Qualcomm to demonstrate it can do it and showcase the tech's capabilities, but once it will be able to do amazing stuff, it will probably be also used on the size and back rather than capacitive, at least, if the OEMs learn again how to think properly.

My real problem with xiaomi is by releasing too many phones they can't focus on their stupid software.

That way you always have access to it even if your phone is lying down. And who puts an ultrasonic reader at the back except for the Qualcomm insider bs?

For the back "hole", ultrasonic FPS could solve that, not only they could provide a big area for reading the fingerprint on the back, side, or in the display, but also, on top of being able to do so without having any visible area on the phone's back which won't be needed anymore once you get a large enough area, if one day they properly implement the tech to do more than just scanning in pseudo 3D the fingerprint, but really do use all the sound imaging capabilities of the tech, they could easily automatically make it reject any protection (screen, case, slim enough gloves, etc), making it the perfect solution that can works on either of the 3 locations better than optical and capacitive ones.

The fact it has a lower surface is actually a con, not a pro.
The smaller surface mean the smaller the area of the fingerprint you can check at once, meaning it is less secure.
Fingerprints aren't perfectly unique, in fact they are quite the opposite, the smaller the area you check, the more the chance of someone having a pattern identical at this area are, a little like if a website actually only used the first 6 of the 12 minimum characters you need to make a password and just ignored the rest, the security would be exponentially reduced.
Same for reproducing someone's fingerprint, you have more chances to acquire this exact area actually as it is where most of the finger's contact will be done when holding objects, it also means less works to reproduce a capacitive compatible replica.
It doesn't mean it is really that much inferior to the rear one, but it is a downside, exactly as the rear one has downsides too.
And no, I am not stretching "It's only downside", both have multiple, for example, it is only good for right-handed people, and like the one on the back, it is dependent on how you hold your phone, and there are a LOT of ways to hold a phone and none is "the main" way.
