Let all these chinese brands and Apple focus on their Potatography meanwhile. Just kidding.

Less crosstalk within the pixel is a good thing. Samsung now out of the dslr/ compact camera market for years, should step up its game and launch an alI-out attack on the premium compact, yea even entry level system camera's out there. With these kind of improvements in 1.0μm pixels that can happen and in the comming years it will only get better. Optimalisations are another thing and there is still area to win there, but hardware is the ground from where to build it up.

TheLastOracle, 05 Sep 2021Though both seem to have dusl pixel pro autofocus, the GN5 ... moreSpec sheets for Isocell sensors are weirdly inconsistent across the product lineup as some of them don't mention max. framerates at different resolution settings while others do, but it's fairly safe to assume that readout speed on both sensors are pretty much comparable since both sensors cap out at 10fps at 100MP mode (or 30fps in 8K video recording).
"Staggered HDR on the GN2 is clearly of a lower bit depth"
That wouldn't be necessarily the case either, as the ADC accuracy of GN5 is still 10 bit instead of 12.
"Another reason to believe that the (28.57%?) smaller pixels on the GN5 (compared to the GN2)"
It's 1µm2 vs 2µm2, so 50% smaller - basically half the area.
"the smaller photodiodes on the GN5, should make the proportionate loss of detail due to photodiodes almost similar on both sensors"
What do you even mean by this?

Nick Tegrataker, 04 Sep 2021GN2 has cross diagonal Dual PDAF (or what they call Dual Pi... moreThough both seem to have dusl pixel pro autofocus, the GN5 being (atleast) a generation newer, could have just that slightly faster autofocus, essential.to.play with better HDR. This combined with 90fps at 12.5MP on the GN5 as opposed to 30fps at 12.5fps on the GN2, will aid the GN5 make up for the smaller pixel size, by compensating more brakes it has, to combine information for improving low light and noise, along either colour information.
Plus the GN2 has only RAW8 (using DPCM/PCM compression) and RAW10 output formats, whereas the GN5 has RAW8/10/12, which means the GN5 produces 12-bit RAW photos from its staggered HDR photos, whereas the GN2 is limited to only 10-bit photos. Staggered HDR on the GN2 is clearly of a lower bit depth, which means the GN5 should have better transitions (with lesser banding), and its photos should also be easier to push around in post (for both the in-calera HDR photos, as well as users wanting to use lightroom or other post processing software to work.on photos).
'Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) design on a Dual Pixel product for the first time in the industry'. This should help with improving noise and thus detail.
Another reason to believe that the (28.57%?) smaller pixels on the GN5 (compared to the GN2) should not have any noticeable impact on image quality.
For the GN5
"This technology places two photodiodes, the smallest in the industry, within each 1.0μm pixel of the sensor either horizontally or vertically to recognize pattern changes in all directions."
While they have very similar autofocus technology, the smaller photodiodes on the GN5, should make the proportionate loss of detail due to photodiodes almost similar on both sensors.

TheLastOracle, 04 Sep 2021That combined with much faster autofocus and staggered HDR ... moreGN2 has cross diagonal Dual PDAF (or what they call Dual Pixel Pro) just like GN5, and even if GN5 had employed better AF tech it wouldn't have made a difference in light sensitivity. Staggered HDR along with Smart ISO Pro can be found in GN2 too.
