some said Macbook Air M1 only cost 1000USD .. like .. for real?? I run a laptop store here and if it's only that much then i seriously would really love to buy like a hundred units and then re-sell 90 of them here for the price of 1400USD (still 100USD cheaper than the regular price here) and then throw the other 10 into the sea just for the lol of it

Phone Reviewer, 08 Sep 2021So xiaomi is exploiting the weak competition in India to gi... moreEverybody does that. Check European smartphone market or Australian smartphone market. People are literally preferring poorest price/performance ratio brands like HMD simply because of lack of competition.
Nevertheless, there aren't much better offering than Xiaomi's in any price range. Be it RedmiBook or Mi Notebook Pro/Ultra. The latter are the best in their price range while RedmiBook is offering similar to competition.

Phone Reviewer, 08 Sep 2021So xiaomi is exploiting the weak competition in India to gi... moreCouldn't have put this any better than this. The pc market in India is full of laptops with unusable displays and abysmal battery sizes, not to mention there are not a single decent pc under the 75000 indian-rupee mark (~1000$).

SShreyas, 07 Sep 2021There is not a single offering from any brand in this price... moreSo xiaomi is exploiting the weak competition in India to give people sub-par laptops.

Cheap quality product...

I still dont get it whats going on in Xiaomi's mind when they built the laptops, a laptop is incomplete without backlit keyboard, just because of this i chose not to buy it. So complete yet so incomplete product.

SShreyas, 07 Sep 2021But keep your kidneys intact.I understand people like you who even can't afford to buy the cheapest MacBook. Hence why you made that comment 😎

Yes, 07 Sep 2021Agree if the difference is just 300$ then by all means go f... moreBut MacBook can't run proper Windows. There is no full x86 support. Rosetta is an unoptimzed joke and most people don't want to to deal with that mess

I bought Lenovo IdeaPad 5 (Ryzen 5- 5500U, 8GB Ram, 512 SSD, 15.6' screen, 57Whr battery, 1.65kg, metal-plastic build) at 50k (INR). Lenovo is much better in terms of everything like build, weight, battery life.
Redmibook is a waste compared to several options in this price.

Its has double the performance in cpu and gpu at least, better build, better display, better speakers, better keyboard and trackpad

If the difference is about 500$, than for a lot of people is too much and this could be a good choice

Almost 700€ for TN panel with 52% sRGB coverage, iGPU and soldered and non-upgradable RAM. This laptop should cost about 300-400€.

SShreyas, 07 Sep 2021That's a rubbish excuse by the government. In the era ... moreHehe, I understand what you mean. I just think it is not a bad idea to leverage big corporations like Apple to invest in india. It has paid off too up to some extent. Look at Samsung, Xiaomi for instance. They manufacture their products in India and are actually quite reasonably priced. Apple also manufacture some products in India now and they are significantly lower priced than before right?

It looks really untidy in the inside, very plastic in the outside. I don’t think this computer will make it more than 2 years. At least for me that I travel very frequently. If it makes it, it will be worthless, just 700 dollars lost. It’s better to spend a few dollars more and get a MacBook Air which is not only way faster than this thing but absolutely of premium quality in every aspect. Just only the rich sound you get when listening to music on the Air would worth any penny spent. And the point is that a Mac can last for ever and can fetch a good price if sold as second hand. I recently sold my 10 years old MacBook Pro late 2011 (which I never had to fix it once and everything was working well) for 300 dollars to get the MacBook Air and that means it cost me just 700 dollars.

SShreyas, 07 Sep 2021Huh. You can get a gaming laptop with a 3060 for the price ... moreDon’t generalize. In Thailand I had to pay exactly 70 dollars more than the USA for an entry level MacBook Air back in January but in today's exchange rate it is only 15 dollars more.

Almand, 07 Sep 2021Oh yea, that is true, government charges a huge tax on impo... moreThat's a rubbish excuse by the government. In the era of globalisation, they are shamelessly earning profits and the people are bearing all the expensive pricing.
It'd be better if government starts allocating more budget to infrastructure rather than using cheap tricks as an excuse to earn revenue.

P.S: This comment isn't meant for you, but for government

SShreyas, 07 Sep 2021Huh. You can get a gaming laptop with a 3060 for the price ... moreOh yea, that is true, government charges a huge tax on imported tech to encourage tech firms to manufacture in India.

Almand, 07 Sep 2021MacBook Air is also a standard laptop, their MacBook Pros a... moreHuh. You can get a gaming laptop with a 3060 for the price of Air in India. As a guy said, Macbooks start at $1260, not $999 as in rest of the world.
It's almost double the price of this RedmiBook and makes no sense for someone in this price range to even think of MacBook.
