Because i h... moreWell I'm doing just fine with 6GB, juggling with many tabs on my internet browser, then a bit of streaming, then back to the browser etc. This is very much YMMV as if you use apps such as social media (I do not), forget your RAM, those will suck just as much as you will give them.

Slow UFS 2.1 storage isn't good enough.

Because i have gotten in many situations where having the extra memory helps more in smartphones since i keep apps open in the background, so when i open them for a long time after, i still want it to stay open exactly where i left it off.

Still, modern storage is fast enough to be used something like that. But I do agree, its kinda pointless on mobile device.

I already struggle to make use of the 6GBs on my Tablet, let alone the 12GBs on my phone. Pagefiles are great for marketing but are very much pointless in reality for mobile devices. Additionally, phones have rather slow storage, so pagefiles carry a significantly bigger performance penality than on modern computers.

"Why now," you ask? Because specs have been stagnant lately. 8GB of RAM has been common in midrange phones since 2-3 generations ago. Processor as well, the SD730/720 has been "good enough" for just as long. Cameras are stuck at 64MP. Samsung chose to break the mold by offering OIS and IP67 on their A-series. Chinese phones (well it started with Vivo) chose to "add more RAM," something easily copied by Samsung.
