Flashback: the Apple iPhone X and its hated but influential notch

Many hated the notch, many still do. But it is important to understand why it was necessary and why it is still relevant.

[deleted post]Usb C can be usb 2.0, 3.1, 3.2 etc. Most flagship from 2019 has usb 3.1 already and few has 3.2.

Having usb type C with USB 2.0 will limit phone to few hundreds megabit bandwidth compare to usb 3 which give 10Gbps or more.

    The Mi 11 Ultra has USB Type C 2.0. You can check the spec page.

    Xiaomi ALWAYS scrimps on something on their devices. It's one reason why I'm not sold on them (MIUI is another). It is understandable on budget-devices, but a $1k+ flagship should not use USB 2.0. That is almost criminal.

    Precisely how many cents did they save by using an obsolete standard?

      What I really cared is the fact that they got rid of the Fingerprint scanner.

        it only messed up the status bar, also when watching videos it feels like the screen is broken and having big black dead pixel that resemble a notch

The Mi 8 and Poco F1 have the same notch design and those phones do need the bigger notch to accomodate infrared camera and illuminator for face recognition.

Yet THE ANDROID OEMS which followed after looked very much like the iPhone X’s even when they didn’t serve the same purpose.

              Talking about imitating. Just a reminder: the first notch was seen on the Essential Phone 1.
              Oh, and also, the actual proposer of wireless charging on phones, Palm, imagined it together with magnets that snap the phone in place (Palm Pre Touchstone). I cannot understand why it took so long for somebody to actually copy their ENTIRE idea.

              But yeah, nice how we say that Apple 'influences' the industry when they copy something from a smaller company most people don't know about, yet when they copy something quite late (years after) from bigger brands, we overlook this wording, we say they 'adopted' or even 'improved' (which sometimes it's true, sometimes isn't). What an ignorant world we live in.

                      The most funny thing is that androids are following everything Apple does, this article is really interesting.
                      I personally love the notch so much, if they ever remove it i won't like it anymore 🤷🏻‍♂️
                      You can hate Apple forever but they have the best tech and designs and OS. That's proven multiple times with tests etc.
                      Half of the people that hate Apple never had an iPhone or any Apple device which i don't understand, how can you hate something that you never had? Even if people are telling you it's not good device, that just means you don't have your own opinion.

                      I'm a big fan of them, i prefer their OS and designs over everything else. It's minimalist, it doesn't have bugs as much as androids, it's smooth even with 60hz (and now we have 120hz so that will be even more amazing).

                      Yes they're expensive, they don't have those big numbers on paper and they don't need it. I don't need 5000mAh if that's going to last barely half of day, i don't need 16GB of RAM just so i can say ,,oh hey I've 16GB of RAM on a phone".

                      For that price you're getting 6 years of software support, you're getting smooth experience all along, you're getting amazing services and what people love the most extremely amazing camera.

                      So yeah, you can hate them. You can call them names, say that they don't have anything inovating etc.
                      Android did all they could possibly do past few years and now they're going to repeat those techs like Apple did with the notch. They're still keep removing headphone jacks, they're still keep removing chargers like Apple did.

                      You're making fun of something that every other company does the same and yet when they do that you're quiet afterwards.
