Techinsights has published its teardown review of Xiaomi‘s flagship Mi 10. The review included an analysis of the cost of the components onboard the device. The teardown was carried out on the topmost 12GB + 256GB variant of the Mi 10 which has a price tag of 4699 yuan ($673) Xiaomi Mi 10

The analysis led to the estimation that the Mi 10’s components cost around $440 (~3088 yuan). That may look outrageously low for a device that has an official retail price of 4699 yuan ($673) and may even sell for higher than the official price of third-party stores. However, we must point out that the production cost of a smartphone isn’t reliant on the components cost only.

Xiaomi’s Chairman Lei Jun had made this clarification several years back when he disclosed in 2012 the factors that determine the actual production cost of smartphones. The factors include component procurement costs, various taxes, foundry processing costs, production losses, research and development costs, after-sales, sales costs, Qualcomm patent fees, company operating costs, and others.

      Unlike Mi, Oppo, etc who have to pay that money to Snapdragon.

      Besides, how conveniently you mention mi 11, not mi 11 Ultra??
      And compare 128gb version of Mi 11 to 256gb version of S21+ to make Chinese flagships look like they have lesser BOM

      Also if a company buys soc, display, camera sensors, etc in bulk, it's cheaper for them.
      The company doesn't disclose these details when telling you about BOM.

        Just some personnal tweaks.

        How many 12MP dual pixel 1/2.55" out there made by sony? Many. Difference between them is not even 5%. This is why google did not bother to trade to new version with same specs every year like samsung did with S7, S8, S9 and S10.

          Nothing else included (software, profits, taxes, marketing, R&D etc).

          Mi 11 (128GB) = $370
          S21+ (256GB) = $508

          The hardware of 13 Pro alone costs more than retail price of many phones powered by 870/865++ and even 888.

          Now imagine price of 13 Pro Max 512/1000GB.

              That's a completely different series compared to IMX 555.

              Apple relies upon auto hdr mode and good image processing algorithms to extract good quality images out of that sensor just like Google does on their pixel devices with tiny sensor.

                Same pixel pitch, same AF system, same resolution.
                Probably only differences might be manufacturing process and some tweaks at circuit level (requested by OEM).

                Impossible to know which one is better unless Sony Semicon publishes whole specs sheet. Which they do not do for all sensors.
                Also, not even RAW file would give real idea because Apple does not use raw Raw, but kinda processed RAW instead.

                The only thing I know, Apple relies too much on HDR.
                And when it fails, results are worse than the other two even if the other do not use HDR as well.

                  You aren't wrong in choosing that route instead of paying the full premium for a 1000$ flagship.

                    I paid only Rs.35k more to buy Mi 11 Ultra after selling my OP8 pro.
                    That approx. 400-450$. So your argument of iPhone having an edge when it comes to upgrading after paying 1000$ for a phone is laughable.
                    Same is possible on Android.... With the choice to switch to a flagship of your liking. Something that is impossible on iOS.

                        The iPhones will only fetch half the price next year when you try to sell it.
                        An Android flagship phone will fetch half the price next year when you try to sell it.
                        Android flagships and iPhones almost cost the same above €1000 in most parts of the world.

                            These people with the usually $1000 rip off for phones need to stick to their mid range Xiaomi phones. People hated on Apple for their pricing and now Samsung flagships are same price and same with Sony and now Pixel range. I'm a android user but Apple phones are worth the money more so than Samsung. If pixel gets it right, the $1000 pixel is more worth it than an equivalent priced Samsung. Their support is terrible. I currently use a Samsung s20+.

                                Main cam of 13 pro is just a variant of the one used by S21 (snapdragon unit), the imx555.
                                The other two are just updated versions of ones used by 12 pro. Still 1/3.4".
                                Trading 1/3.4" for new 1/3.4" does not change more than 2% of quality of raw files.

                                        6 Pro could of had killer camera setup, but really cheaped out with Ultra-Wide which is old and tiny at 1/2.9", well still larger than even 13 Pro Max, but still it is super tiny and wont perform well in low light, just as iPhone. iPhone is literally the one top end phone that used such a tiny sensor for Ultra-Wide, second will be Pixel, rest of higher end flagship now go for larger, higher end sensors for Ultra-Wides.
