Terrible
And that without cursing is the nicest I can say about meterial you.
Android looked since ICS better than iOS in my opinion, but meterial you makes iOS and MIUI look better... and that in a not so positive sense.
I hope Material You quickly dies for something not made and changed for the sake of keeping your job as a UI designer at Google.

Rounder UI that desperately wants to look like iOS without its flair + greater restrictions on what you can do on your own device + fake sense of privacy controls that still will not let you control data harvested from you without your actual consent. Android keeps getting worse and worse every year.

I've been using Android since Jelly Bean and Lollipop was a major change in design, the next two were incremental though but once again Oreo was quite an upgrade from it and Pie was not a lot better but once again, 10 was a big upgrade, quite substantial I would say. The one after was again just okay but 12 is shaping up to be another big one although the improvements are not all on only in visuals, if you went through the entire change log. It takes like 2 iterations of Android now to be quite different from the earlier versions but with iOS perhaps it has been the same looking since long time but what is even worse is that it still lacks important features that Android brought since years ago

Android is stagnant from a design point of view. It reached its peak around version 5 or 6 and has been decaying since then. Modern phones are better because of their hardware, but Android is getting closer to iOS with every new update which is the opposite of improving.

i am half-hearted about the material you...
but the efficiency is good, based on what i saw on youtube...
fluid on a pixel 5...
we are getting near the swipe gestures of nokia n9...
as most actions can now be done on screen...
volume slider can save volume rocker...
and the knock on, courtesy of lg mobile will save the power button from faster wear and tear...
it is still good that they are there, and they will stay there longer due to gestures...
i still like the ui design of android 5 to 11, though...

I'm 40 and stopped caring making my homescreen look "pretty" a long, long time ago. Most people will never ever see our homescreen any way.
All I want from future software updates is stability, fluidity, and efficiency. I want improvements but aesthetics is the least I want from it.
Android 12 is starting to look MIUI. Not One UI. Catered to Zoomers, the new 20-something that grew up playing GameCube or Wii as their first Nintendo home console.

Google should be out of this business, we need a better OS then the remaining Stealing and TrackingOS. MeeGo should ressurect and take this shady business's out of the picture. Oh i forgot the mass of ignorance...

So you can setup it as previous Androids.

I think there's too much of thick colors. I won't like my Google apps to be in a shade of light blue with my blue wallpaper!

Hope this can be disabled. Gonna look terrible for some colours like red, yellow, brown, purple, dark blue etc ..
