Sony and Meizu are partnering up to bring Flyme apps and features to Xperia phones in China

15 October 2021
These will be pre-installed on future devices, current owners will be able to download them after installing the October firmware update.

At least Sony is just porting these apps in the region where they are necessary for the users, instead of rolling it out on every region of the world. It's definitely a way better move than some other known brands putting annoying ads in the software of their most premium devices *ehem ehem.*

E... moreSamsung renamed SoC will work out for Pixel just great! 888 and 889 are the testament that Samsung is far away from TSMC when it comes to fabrication. With ARM9 spec everyone will make custom chips once again unlike with ARM8 when everyone was doing reference design. There will be so many custom chips out there that Sony making one wouldn't make a difference unless they want to power up other electronics such as TVs, Walkmans, cars, etc.

Sony's problem is nobody's buying their phones. Even their own fanboys on the net are just cheap Xiaomi/Realme users who pretend they can afford a Sony phone to make people think they're cool.

Imo Sony should be going Pixel route, start thinking of designing their own SoC. That way, they can support phones for 5 years or longer. That will give people a reason to pay premium for Sony. But I'm sure their old Japanese management cannot think outside the box.

If you are in Malaysia, get me in touch with your 'friend' then cos Mi 10T Pro is popular here even in used condition due to its camera and gaming performance as well as having 2 years official warranty. I flipped a few Mi phones myself and Mi 10T is resurgent in demand now after the MIUI 12.5 Enhanced is out. Btw, what price is your friend asking for it? If it's near the price of a new phone, no wonder it's not sold yet. Not even used S20 FE will sell fast if it's too near the price when new.

Don't tell me about the issues on poco X2 or redmi note 10 pro just a simple google search would help. Even mi 10 pro isn't a stranger to bugs. So don't tell me that MIUI Is Good.. Because it's not.. It is just an overglorified overrated mess. Touchwiz from samsung years ago is better than this..

Their 2 years worth of efforts was fruitful with their kirin processors and the output was class leading in it's own right. Just think logically, why would they suddenly abandon their patented and perfected algorithm with RYYB Sensors with generic normal RGGB Sensor with their software..

MIUI on flagships are not 'extremely bad'. Phones like Mi 10 Pro and Mi 10T Pro are just some examples that GSMarena praised for the smooth implementation of MIUI.

Seems Sony is gaining steadily in its mobile buissness, as last corp report said 19% of earnings in Electronics is Mobile dep, thats second best to TV dep with 37%, and now better than Still and video camera dep, and also video/audio dep, which earn less %.

Looking at my friend's Xperia 5 II struggling to maintain smooth animations throughout the UI, I strongly doubt that can be counted as the strength of Sony phones. Also, most of the stuff you listed in the third paragraph in your comment feels like a bunch of gimmicks to me.. I especially don't understand why you think the brighter display can be considered as a gimmick but so-called "360 audio" on PHONE speakers cannot.

Having this kind of blind trust in a specific company is actually very dangerous because it prevents you from assessing the quality of their products fairly. You know, I could make the same argument with all the other smartphone manufacturers.

"Apple knows what they are doing because they have been the gold standard for a smartphone camera for a long time" - Meanwhile iPhone 13 Pro's cameras spit out excessively clarity-boosted, oversharpened, and overdenoised photos that are hard to like.

"Samsung knows what they are doing because they used to have a camera division that produced DSLRs" - The image processing is still laughably atrocious on the Exynos models.

"Huawei knows what they are doing because they have a Leica partnership" - Yet they went for RYYB sensors and wasted the entire 2 years tuning the colour balance, only to ditch them on their latest flagship and somehow achieve the best image quality they could ever get.

"OnePlus knows what they are doing because of Hasselblad partnership" - Contrast-boosted, oversharpened mess.

"Vivo knows what they are doing because of Zeiss partnership" - Their first flagship products released after the announcement of the partnership (X60 series) had a terrible lens.

"Sony knows what they are doing because the same team is behind Cybershot and alpha series" - Still having some serious quality control issues for the lens (Xperia 1 III), and their detail processing produces a lot of fuzzy-looking pixelated edges.

Poor Sony customers, expect more bloatware with ads integrated 😐. I wish I could install AOSP instead of Flyme.
