We are not blind fanatics who just support whatever the company we're fanboying is doing. We support Sony because they're one of the few ones left to be doing pro-consumer moves with their products.
Besides, did you not read the whole article? It was clearly explained that this is only an option and it also comes with a minor price cut, unlike others who do it without any option and yet the price still remains the same when they are coming with a charger.
If ever Sony decides to remove the charger inside the box, I'd be one of the first to criticize them for that. That should be the way to support companies; you don't condemn them for their anti-consumer moves because it will seem for them that what they're doing is good and they will continue to do it until we can no longer ask them to bring back those necessary features.

yes, for Sony fans, they are proud that they have a micro SD, 3.5mm etc at the moment. Enjoy it, maybe Sony will eliminate it too in 2022.

Well, at least they did the honest thing and applied the corresponding price cut. So, kudos to them for that.
As for why are they doing this: it's pretty obvious they are preparing themselves for that new EU law

Anonymous, 22 Oct 2021Think of sustainability and reducing electronic waste or eff off.Yes let's care about the environment by not putting a charger in box, but by having to order one (extra delivery bad for environment) that has extra packaging (more trash) so companies earn extra cash.
Because that will save the environment, instead of making the phones easier to fix.

I bet Sony smartphones will be out of the market the same way as LG, but LG did better on smartphones than Sony, but last no longer so, its time to Sony say goodbye now.
Sony was good until 2013, after that is just pure tra*h.

Another stupid move by Sony copying Apple's. Who the hell would want to buy phone without charging brick? I'm sure the Apple fanatics do, who always agreed to Apple's ideas even if its greediness for money. "Apple creates problems in all their devices only to sell you the solutions" - Stupid!
