The reason they chose punch hole over pop up is because punch hole has come to be associated with high end phones and pop up with mid range phones.

Putting a camera on the bezel the same kind of way Sony Xperias have. No punch hole on the screen, no need to have udc also don't need a pop-up cam.

Anonymous, 26 Oct 2021Miss the time when pop up camera was popular, they already ... moreToo many people hated them for no reasons and constantly talked about issues that were never a thing outside totally normal and in fact respectively small number of exceptions and made many customers got away from those along with OEMs to just turn their back on it by fear of this not selling anymore.
Funny part is that engineers and phone designers still make patents and prototypes with pop up, clearly proving the tech is still totally relevant and the actual pros in the field consider them worthy of being made.
And since people haven't totally lost their sanity yet, it is still the most preferred solution for camera in TVs as even those spiting on privacy wouldn't want a camera constantly ON in their living room, nor the punch hole lovers would want that horror on their TVs, which is what a healthy market that haven't been wasted by haters actually looks like.
Blame guys like this "George399" who posted just before you, people who can't accept that there are other tastes than their own and who get mad everytime someone doesn't like the mainstream/trending and would like anything else but their own preferences to be available on the market as if they needed all devices.

The only desire I expressed here is about NOT having a punch hole which a LOT of people also share and which is the only reason techs like underdisplay camera despite the ridiculous list of drawbacks and issues are obsessing so many people.
And you don't know what they want.
I've already write that a bazillion times, but, EVERY MARKET ON THE PLANET HAVE DIVERSITY AND MOST OF THEM DO PRODUCTS FOR NICHES EXCEPT THE SMARTPHONE MARKET, yet people like you make it sound as if what the smartphone market do is normal while it is literally the only exception one could find outside things that have hard physical or regulatory limits.
It is also the ONLY market where the community spit on people who don't want the mainstream design and think it is a normal behavior, mainstream design who is so bad that no other markets ever did anything remotely similar or only did once (for the handful number of tablets with punch holes limited to the Huawei MatePad Pro and Honor Pad V7 or smartwatches with curved edge display that actually makes senses unlike smartphones, which are the ONLY examples of such horrors and are only because they are highly related to smartphones).
But yeah, people do require holes in displays and curved edge that are a pain for many users, sure.

it i... moreWhen you say screen 2400 x1080, it means there are 2.592.000 pixels on screen.
If the screen has hole or notch, you do not have this amount, but less.
This was said when iphone X showed up.
The advertise does not match the real resolution.

Trying to make the display as big as possible compared to the body, to just put a hole on it instead of using one of the bazillion solutions that allow to NOT have a hole, many of which allowing the same screen-to-body ratio.
Please, tell me I am not the only one who see this is beyond stupidity and insanity...

This is excellent news, but I hope that the design will also make it to the mid-range Xiaomi 12 Lite (5G). In fact, I would prefer an under display frontal camera on all models, as I rarely ever use it, but the screen is something which we constantly use and it would be much more important to have an uninterrupted screen than slightly better frontal cam image quality.

it is a measurement of the horizontal and vertical puxels.
it is RESOLUTION measurement, not diagonal or pixels per inch measurement.
