Google is working on a second generation Tensor SoC

29 October 2021
Next year's Pixel is already being developed with a next-gen Tensor chip.

seriously not interested. a smartphone is about lot of things other than the chip. i don't see pixel 6 serious beating pixel 4a sales. The design the camera the chipset everything is first generation and all three are not even 8 out of ten considering the price they are charging.

OhNom, 29 Oct 2021How a mobile Soc can crush a PC one, if you can explain? That argument has sailed.

Apple made ARM SOC can run neck and neck with Desktop class windows machines.

Their only second attempt at Laptop GPU is on par with Desktop 3060 and Laptop 3070.

      Not bad at all.

The newly announced M1 Pro and M1 Max are still using last year's cores.

Next year Brand new M2 based on ARM V9 is expected ft
      or MacBook Air.

      It's going to fly.

            [deleted post]SD480 neats tensor.
            All exynos are crappy.

Apple used TSMC exclusively by iPhone 7 for the infamous A9 "chipgate" where the Samsung's A9 chip would overheat more than the TSMC.

Pixel 6 is only getting 3 years of software updates. Expect it to reach 5 once it's more familiar designing their own chips.

same here (i could make a sacrifice if the width was maximum like 5a).
so i stay now with my 4a and wait for the next year`s model ...
but at the end of the day i think that i prefer a big pixel than a big/small realme/xiaomi/samung etc.
The only alternative options for me could be Asus (Zen phone) or Oneplus but now with the new hardware and 5 years support...the gap gets bigger .

Hey , from India here .
Confused btwn S21 , OnePlus 9 pro and pixel 6/6 pro.....what I gather from reviews... Tensor's battery life is kinda average at best...anyone having an idea about it ??
Google should optimize it for battery life if it's the case

It would be funny if they stopped making custom chips because that's what Google does.

The Flip, 29 Oct 2021Don't mock Google for using Samsung SoCs because Apple... moreAtleast Apple made a own whole version of Arm Architecture

This is just lazy google take a old Exynos and slap a small TPU and call it a day.

Don't mock Google for using Samsung SoCs because Apple did the same thing rebranding Samsung-manufactured SoCs in 2010. The A4 found on iPhone 4 was a rebranded SoC made from Samsung.

                          iPhone 3GS: S5L8920
                          iPhone 4: S5L8930X (rebranded as Apple's A4)

Samsung manufactured the SoCs from iPhone 2G through 5S. TSMC made A8. Then Samsung came back to make A9 with TSMC. TSMC has been the one to make the SoCs for Apple since A10.

Apple really got good at designing their SoCs until they got rid of Samsung and used TSMC exclusively. Like the A9 was amazing since it's still being supported. But A10 Bionic and up is when Apple's designed chips really took off. A14 is incredible. The A10 would be Apple's 7th generation A-series chip and the 2nd gen without Samsung.

I want to buy one, but the phones are just too big. Anything above 73mm width is a deal breaker for me; 70 / 71mm is ideal. I'm not paying $500+ and making a huge sacrifice on comfort. Also... The Pixel 6 is kinda ugly; no cap. I don't have a problem going from understated to flashy, but this design is polarizing.

I guess Pixel 7 is going to be awesome. Seven is heaven. People still consider the S7 the best Galaxy S ever. My favorite video game is still Final Fantasy VII from 1997. And Fast & Furious 7 is probably still the best Fast movie although I did like Fast Five.

The first Tensor is just a rebranded Exynos but the second Tensor will be really designed by Google. They will have way more input for this one.

2nd gen Tensor will have triple X1 cores and no mid or low power core. Google engineers go crazy.

Meanwhile I'll be looking forward to the Pixel 6a with (possibly) the 1st gen Tensor SoC (if not, at least a SD 778G) and the same 50 MP camera from the Pixel 6, along with plans to launch it in India so that we Pixel 4a users here will finally get a chance to properly upgrade.

They should be working on the screen first. But yeah, phone developers never think far.

Generation 2 or 3 works out the kinks...

                                        Razr 5G
Flip 3 (really Flip 2 as 5G was the same as the first)

Part 2 in video games and game consoles like SNES, PS2, 360, and Vita. My favorite for movies are The Godfather Part II, The Empire Strikes Back, and Back To The Future Part II.

Avoid Gen 1 as much as possible especially in tech because Gen 2 or 3 really improve things.
