AnonD-1018330, 03 Nov 2021I don't see the purpose of using high brightness unles... moreI always thought the same thing, the manufacturer who brag about their phones having 1300+ nits of peak brightness, I don't consider this as a pro, like I'm gonna watch a movie or HDR videos in direct sunlight, most people watch movies in dark rooms like in theaters.
But who knows, maybe some people like to use their iPad and MacBook in direct sunlight on their yacht's deck, but I doubt this is common.

I don't see the purpose of using high brightness unless you're outdoor or if your power went down and you need to use screen instead of flash because it would be more brighter than actual flash 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

Unless they solved burn in, it'll continue to be a problem and which is why miniLED or even microLED one day is the way to go.

Lithuania, 03 Nov 2021What's the point in super bright laptop displays? To b... moreIt's for HDR scenes. You don't need the entire screen to get to 1200 nits but when seeing an HDR movie or scene, you would benefit from specific zones on the display getting that bright.

What's the point in super bright laptop displays? To burn your eyes out?
On all the laptops I have ever owned, I have never used them on more than 50% brightness.
Even more so on mobile phones, where I use them at 20-30% brightness indoors and occasionally ramp up the lights only in direct sunlight.

I hope no one that will copy apple's notch on MacBook to their laptop. It's enough to see notch even punch hole on smartphone.
