To back my claim of linux as better OS than windows, I am currently typing on a machine with a distro of linux. Yes, the commercial apps like Autodesk, adobe, etc need to get their apps on linux. This will get users to linux. But the problem is, the core. Debian or arch?. So they are going towards SaaS now. Most of them. If you have a browser, you can use app with the subscription. This is saving them millions on development cost and losses due to piracy. This is removing the barriers of OS for them. So they definately wont prefer developing on any new platforms (new for them) like linux.

BigMillions, 15 Nov 2021I just wish Google would make Android for Desktops/Laptops ... moreI guess you are in luck. I am not an android developer. But as i see, there is support for android studio to be installed in Chromebook. check here: https://9to5google.com/2018/09/20/how-to-install-android-studio-on-chrome-os/
Also, what i heard was there is software support for 8YEARS. Thats more than the linux LTS versions support. Thats more than Microsoft's support for whatever OSes they launched.
If Google continues to make the official support for linux apps on chromebooks, the other person's comment will be answered and people will start building apps for linux too.

BigMillions, 15 Nov 2021I just wish Google would make Android for Desktops/Laptops ... moreProblem with Linux is it just doesn't have much commercial apps, and such it's missing easy to use software for the "common" people, Linux kernel is way ahead of Windows, most Desktop Environments (Gnome,Kde,XFCE, LXQT, Cinnamon, etc etc) that on Linux you can choose and change pretty much whenever you like, you can choose the perfect balance of eye candy and performance, being the exception KDE that is both eye candy and performant because of the numerous optimizations,Gnome is minimalist, XFCE you pretty much don't need a GPU and LXQt even an old slow notebook becomes decent to use, this on Windows is pretty much impossible. Security, package manager to share binaries and easy install software just makes it another level, Windows just isn't capable of going so far because it's incompatible with this scriptable shared resources from it's bare foundations, this is one of the reason Windows is slower compared. etc etc,if Adobe would make Photoshope version to Linux or Autodesk, Linux would sky rocket it's usage in a year!

I just wish Google would make Android for Desktops/Laptops instead of the lousy Chromebooks. Currently, only a limited number of Chromebooks support Google Play Store. And most of them have limited storage

There are plenty of Windows Apps that are now available on Android. This can surely help lots of users make the switch.

Jamoes, 13 Nov 2021Linux and Chrome OS are still unable to compete with Apple ... moreProblem with Linux is that there are too many distros. And if you didn't get the word distro, then you must not be knowing 1% of Linux.. icing on cake, there are various variants in the core like debian, arch, redhat, android etc.
I used windows from day 1 of my computer knowledge and for 20 years, I didn't know anything other than windows.
I hopped many distros because I always compared them with the usability of windows.
If usability is your concern try zorian os. I have been using it as a daily driver, home entertainment and my custom NAS too is configured on it.
Assure runs over Linux. If you didn't know this. Just use zorian for home and entertainment and you would start getting addicted to Linux.

Trinadhy, 13 Nov 2021Another piece of junk from Microsft. I bought an i3 laptop ... moreMicrosoft does make a Surface-branded AMD laptop, so that is worth checking out. The Core i3 hasn't really been much of people's favourite.

Another piece of junk from Microsft. I bought an i3 laptop with Windows 10 and it is so slow that it is totally frustrating. No wonder intel too is going downhill.

Linux and Chrome OS are still unable to compete with Apple and Microsoft OS, dont believe all that advertisements gimmicks from so many sources and blogs. Simply, if Apple and Windows lost, why are they still being sold and dominating? Apple is mostly for people who want to show off expensive gadgets but they are still unable to win over Microsoft OS and Office apps. I hate Windows for buggy and forcing users but I still need to use because they are still the best OS. If Linux and Chrome OS are nearly on par, I'll switch over!

I remembered my school here in my country temporarily switch from Windows to Linux and it's a complete nightmare. There are way more maintenance needed to be done with the desktops and LibreOffice is not capable enough to be a worthy Microsoft Office Word and Office PowerPoint replacement. Everything went back to normal when we have Windows back. But that said, my school embodies some learning of Linux via Raspberry Pi.

PocoFairRedmi, 10 Nov 2021Wouldn't it be great if students came back to school w... moreTotally agree. Some form of ARM based processor in laptop and a light weight linux running on it. Linux is good for personal use, education, servers, IoT etc etc.

And when are those ARM based Laptops coming? I am Keenly waiting for those processors which could run some form of Windows (light or full) or support any linux OS. Intel, AMD, windows, Please listen.

... Nokia partnered with windows for a light OS, Nokia died. Small time tablet manufacturers tried windows RT and didnt even come to market place. Take a cue Microsoft. OS cost matters at the bare bones budget category

Linux though too far is catching up slowly and steadiy. Chrome OS (doesnt matter what the public think of) is an example of Linux OS heavily customized. Microsoft has already switched its business model from product sales to service and subscription based model. This would be the right time for them to launch their Free Linux based OS with all the Microsoft services stitched deep into it (Just like google's android) with support for android apps and by default the Windows apps. Transation in the digital era is not deniable. If they want Windows to be alive in the future, this is the way. Else Mac and Chrome OSes are going to run windows down.

People expect every Microsoft product to be full blown windows so no matter what they try they will fail.
Windows RT, windows S and others are clear example of what is wrong.
Just make windows better for ARM processors and make your own chipset .
