Qualcomm reportedly changing the naming scheme of its flagship SoCs

15 November 2021
The new name for the Snapdragon 898 probably makes more sense.

Time for rebranding is coming. Apple with the iphone 14, 15, 16? No they'll have to find another name or else it's ridiculous. Samsung with the S22, 23, 24? No, ridiculous. Xiaomi with 12, 13, 14, again...ridiculous. Time to rebrand.

Snapdragon F1 would have been a better name.
        (F = flagship)

It could be accompanied by snapdragon M1 (mid-range)
        And L1 (low-range).

No reason to have more than 3 different processors per year.
Plus versions might make sense as an incremental upgrade at 6 months.

Ha, ha. When there is nothing to do - they usually start with rebranding))
                Then we will possibly see:

Smaug would be great name too. Godzilla could be next.

They have the brains and logic to design and produce computer chips, but lack the brains to name them logically...

AnonD-994853, 15 Nov 2021Gen 1 because of the overheating The new chip will be a hot, throttling mess. Exynos will take the crown as throttling-King 2022 though.

ARMv9 so Snapdragon 900 would have actually been a great name because the Adreno GPU got huge upgrades too apparently and jumped from the Adreno 660 (SD888) to Adreno 730 which means the graphics architecture got significant changes (first digit is the generation, second & third are performance indicators)

This makes sense. As the 8 Gen 1 is a real monster. It's the first SoC from Snapdragon branding. That is all truly 64 bit for the first time. So Gen 1 for a first time all 64 bit SoC with the snapdragon branding...
