YUKI93, 15 Nov 2021Hang on... if the Snapdragon 888 successor is really going ... moreProbably following the footsteps of Sony/Nikon/Canon camera nomenclature where the next generation are after the main series moniker, but instead of "Mark II/III", etc. found in camera or cars today, it will be like Gen.II, Gen.III, and so on (SD8 Gen 1 -> SD8 Gen 2, SD7 Gen 1 -> SD7 Gen 2, and same with the rest), that's my speculation. This also considers that SD600 numbering is already full and SD800 near full.

that's why next year is a golden time to buy ... moreHow is this gonna change it?
Last year they decided to put a prized title to their chip, number 888. What happened then?
But then if this year they come up with 898 or 895 it will be seen as an near complete ( ending 800 series) generational leap. So they introduce this or 900 or whatever.
Again what happened the last time they cross a huge gap in naming?

Isn't that the same kind of naming scheme Qualcomm use for their Windows ARM CPUs? There's 7c alongside 7c Gen 2, 8c, and 8cx alongside 8cx Gen 2.

Hang on... if the Snapdragon 888 successor is really going to be called 'Snapdragon 8 Gen 1', then what will be the name for the 'Snapdragon 8 Gen 1' successor?

I suspect qualcomm is gonna bring just 1 CPU of each series per year now.
This name scheme reminds of the intel with core i3, i5, i7 and i9.
SD4 Gen 1, SD6 Gen 1, SD7 gen 1 and SD8 gen 1.

This sucks if you're gonna be searching for gen 1 when current is gen 6 or something. Already had that issue when trying to upcycle a device with msm72xx series.

Dragon will fall somewhere in between those two Kings.

ishreal, 15 Nov 2021Every smartphone without a built-in fan will do this. That&... moreAnd fans are just not practical in these devices given their size. Phones are for calls, text and data. Light gaming fair enough but people treating their phones like a PlayStation or gaming PC or laptop is ridiculous.

Almidani, 15 Nov 2021Narh it will be fine.A15 will undouptly take the crown of throttling. Thta was the exynos 990 that will still remain the king for throttling and heating. The heating king might be the exynos tho. And then mtk is going to catch up too.

AnonD-1026261, 15 Nov 2021nah probably no heating this year
in both exynos and snapdragonNarh there will be even more overheating in 2022 just wait and see.
Exynos will become the Throttling-King 2022 though as usual.
