Qualcomm reportedly changing the naming scheme of its flagship SoCs

15 November 2021
The new name for the Snapdragon 898 probably makes more sense.

The price kids(the parents) pay when they could get a console or basic gaming PC makes all of this even more crazy. Good example of why it used tobe illegal to have marketing strategies targetting kids. Now it's the prefered strategy and parents are getting fleaced.

It is Snapdragon anyway. You can ignore the naming. Everybody knows that Snapdragon processors are superb and improving quickly.

They can rename it according to regional requirements

        Snapdragon 8 Mark 1 waterproof
Snapdragun 8 Pro Big Mac extra cheese
Snap Dragon 8 Ultra Fast Charger 200W
Snapdragon 2³ Gen ¹/¹ maths edition
        Snpdrgon $8 budget edition
snapdragon 888 Pro Plus very Pro edition
        iSnapdragon IDK-what's-in-my-phone Edition

        Etc etc

Honestly, who cares? They're just names. Qualcomm can call them Broiler or Furnace and nobody cares.

You know what really grinds my gears? Apple telling their misinformed users that sideloading is wrong. Which is why I refuse to support this company. They want us to do less with our phones. I hate their stance on right to repair.

I guess Qualcom learned a thing or two from the USB 3 naming scheme 🤷‍♂️

is this v9 based? or still v8?

LG Superfan, 15 Nov 2021How about Snapdragon F22 (F denoting flagship and two digi... moreMakes sense until the Mid Rangers, since you gave an x after the two the base foundatiom of your naming that relied on two digit numbers denoting the year the chipset was built in is voided. But since you gave a name to every single segment (F22/K22/U22/M22/E22/G22) I think this makes the most sense as Qualcomm can release the base chipsets in Q1 and the (F22+/K22+/U22+/M22+/…) in Q3. Pratically eliminating the confusion since you get to know the year/segment and variation from just 3 letters.

                  Hmm.... That raises a question...
Since "Snapdragon 898" is going to be named "Snapdragon 8 gen 1"... It would be quite a mouthful to say it in a conventional conversation.. So... maybe Snapdragon 8G1 in jargon?

LG Superfan, 15 Nov 2021How about Snapdragon F22 (F denoting flagship and two digi... moreQuite a good name schematics... not gonna lie... :o

Qualcomm which is based in San Diego seems to be obsessed with the number 8 the way Capcom took years to count to 3 with Street Fighter.

I love Snapdragon 888 except it throttles in hot weather. It doesn't really overheat like what others are saying. My HTC One M7 was crazy hot if gaming for 5 minutes simply playing Plants vs. Zombies 2. But Snapdragon 888 runs much cooler. Run emulators if the temperature you are in is cold.

For a few years now, I have wanted a new chip (the flagship stuff, but even midrange chips are more than good enough now) to bring efficiency to the table and keep performance the same as the old one, thus giving users more battery life which is actually noticeable in daily life unlike running benchmarks whole day long! Then next year they could bump the performance a bit if they want to.
This reminds me of the tick-tock of Intel, but sadly thats not a thing on mobile.

Ugly naming but if it is good ok then.

                                How about
Snapdragon F22 (F denoting flagship and two digit denoting year)
                                Snapdragon K22 (Flagship killer)
Snapdragon U2x (Upper mid range X denoting position in series)
Snapdragon M2x (Mid range X denoting position in series)
Snapdragon E2x (Entry level X denoting position in series)
Snapdrgaon G2x (for Android Go phones)

                                    Snapdragon 22 for flagship killer
Snapdragon 890 and above for upper mid range
Snapdragon 780 and above for mid range
