15 November 2021
The new name for the Snapdragon 898 probably makes more sense.

Yes their product page just changed from 800 series to 8 series.
At least it's less messy than Samsung where the higher number can be a lower tier than a lower number chipset. To add on, they constantly change the number, thousand and hundreds.

Almand, 15 Nov 2021I guess Qualcom learned a thing or two from the USB 3 namin... morewhich is awful 😢

They should've gone with something like
        Snapdragon X8-190
So they can go with X8-195 for + version or X8-170 for lower trim version
        Then next year X8-290
All the way to X8-1190 and beyond
        While maintaining
        S7-190 higher mid flagships
        M6-190 lower mid flagships
        E4-190 lower end flagships

          dxyuyu, 16 Nov 2021So let's say there's a plus version like 865+ or ... more8.1 gen 1 or 7.9 gen 1

So let's say there's a plus version like 865+ or another version but drops in the same year like 870 then what it'll be called?

I think we're in for a big confusion

Anonymous, 15 Nov 2021If people complain about 888/888+, why would qualcomm in 20... moreWho said they would? I was asking for eventually refreshes. They did them before and likely will do again. A bit of logic goes a long way.

The Flip, 15 Nov 2021Honestly, who cares? They're just names. Qualcomm can ... moreROFL

Look at this guy... Apple got into his head so much that what ever he reads, they're all he can think about.

                  begginging...
                  or perhaps snapdragon 8 I (mark 1)
so we can just append the mark nomenclature on any of their series and they can go on forever...
                  series 8 for flagship...
                  series 2 for entry...
                  2, 4, 6, 8? and get rid with series 7?
and people will chase numbers more than ever...
so, xperia naming makes sense now...
oh wait, it has been... alpha and canon eos also use such naming... and who knows ironman suits?

Anonymous, 15 Nov 2021Isn't that the same kind of naming scheme Qualcomm use... moreNow that you mention Snapdragon Windows ARM chipsets, that actually makes sense.

The best name is it's nanometers.

You're telling me that instead of moving onto 900 and 1000 they just straight up got rid of it?

Can anybody explain the change from 865, 870, 888. It's unreal. I mean, yes, use number x65 to x70 to denote step up versions in the same series, but keep the 5 series, or change to x1 +(a step enhancement? e (economy) after 898, with x1 and continue raiding the digit and then multiple digit count, good fur a 10-1 million years or more. Use A and b series for alpha E try chips K and L mid range etc. No need to be confusing again

There are 3 digit number combination, yet they still managed to f up the naming scheme ..

                                      How about Snapdragon 8(9)v22

                                      (9) -> indicate the high end in 800 series
V22-> indicate the year of release
