Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra's notched display confirmed

At least it has two cameras inside the notch.

Notches obviously are ugly, but context also matters. In this context, we are looking at a huge af tablet.

Look at that notch on this tablet. If it were on a phone, it'd be huge, but on this tablet? It's small in comparison. They put a phone-sized notch on a tablet. That is considerably much better than having a scaled-up notch.

Obviously no notch is the most preferred, but I'm not too bugged about it on this tablet.

Notch on anything is bad. It doesn’t matter if it’s an iPhone, a Samsung tablet or a MacBook. Please stop the notch madness!

I think it looks great with such a small notch. Compare it to the iPhone's 11 Pro notch and you'll realize how good us android users have it.

constipation, 20 Nov 2021My bad. I stand corrected. Of course you can't make... moreActually, you can, all the scuba gear are a proof of that.

And not only it is useless, but it actually is detrimental.
People don't realize that IP rating isn't intended at all for immersion, it is only for stuffs like :
*Proving that an outdoor gear can handle rain, usually they simply have a simple construction using gravity to let water slide to the side, such as outdoor security camera who have a "roof".
*Proving that something such as a shower speaker can handle water jets.
*Proving that an outdoor equipment, such as an electric outlet, can survive for a certain time in case of a flood.

            But they aren't :
*Guaranteed, not at all, from defective units to the test's limitations.
*Repeatable, for IP67/68, it is only meant to happen once, not multiple times.
*Lasting, it is always tested on brand-new devices, the natural wear is not taken into account.
*Cumulative, IPx7/x8 rating does NOT cover IPx3 to x6 ratting, which is why Sony do certify their phones for both IP65 and IP68.

And while IP5x/6x and x3 to x6 are actually useful (proving the device can handle rain), IPx7/x8 are not at all useful as the phone is still not meant at all to be dipped into liquids, it is only a "peace of mind" that isn't guaranteed at all, and push people to be careless with their phones, many do use their phone underwater because they think IP67/68 mean "waterproof", while a non-negligible number of IP67/68 devices are damaged or bricked by water.

None of the big brand cover water damages in non-extended warranty, in fact, they put water damage stickers inside their devices, so they know when NOT to refund/replace the device.
So apart from killing techs such as pop up camera, 3.5mm Jack and other things, and adding cost to the device, the only thing IPx7/x8 ratting actually does is mislead many users into breaking themselves their phones.

              AnonD-909757, 19 Nov 2021Not "waterproof". "Water-resistant", a... moreMy bad. I stand corrected.

Of course you can't make an electronics to be water proofed in such small and thin enclosure (yet). But tbf water resistant is still useful for users. For example, such smartphone use to sold very well in Japan, way before it became a mainstream feature for flagships. Here's a quote from a Mashable article dating back to 2016.
"Users in the country got used to having smartphones years before Western counterparts. Manufacturers had to make phones water resistant because Japanese women were so attached to their phones they brought them into shower. As a result, nearly every phone in for the Japanese market has been made water resistant, to meet standard expectations."

YUKI93, 19 Nov 2021Only if it's a spring-loaded manual type. Water and el... moreExcept that there are a bunch of waterproof electric motor and electric motor housing.
In fact, you'd better have the motor in the same enclosure as the pop-up itself, so there isn't any leak through the motor's screw from the pop-up enclosure to the other parts of the phone.

                    And, again, with my design:
                    https://imgur.com/gallery/ykYfaa6
Simply using magnets and electromagnets, since magnetic field aren't shielded at all by a plastic wall, you can have a separate enclosure for the pop-up itself and the electromagnets against said enclosure on the other side of the "wall".
And even there, the electromagnets don't even need to be exposed at all, flat coils aren't required to be directly exposed, like QI wireless receiver who are typically inside a black wrap.

I really love Samsung especially their phones, but if they continue like this, they are literally going to die just like LG. Please Samsung come to realization that you are just screwing urself up now.

I love Samsung devices, but right now, I'm seriously doubting this company. If they continue on they will die just like LG. Samsung, please fucking do something and realize that you are completely screwing yourself up at this point.

AnonD-909757, 19 Nov 2021A pop-up can still be made IP68 compliant though.Only if it's a spring-loaded manual type. Water and electricity never mix well together, hence why no one ever put IP68 on smartphones with a motorized pop-up camera. Even OnePlus had to ditch the 7 Pro's motorized pop-up camera to gain true IP68 resistance on the 8 Pro.

                              Wow, that's rubbish.

Display looks photoshopped. I can imagine using the eraser tool to form the notch on the screen.

Come on guys there isn't going to be a notch. Samsung has already displayed under screen camera tech in its fold. Id bet it will replicate this for the S8. Samsung has never done a notch, it won't adopt a new design pattern out of the blue.

yikes beautiful screen but spoil by the notch

Hopefully the trend with notched laptops & tablets won't catch on.

I get it on phones, but on other larger devices with plenty of ways to have symmetrical bezels, it just ruins the screen & user experience.

The best way to tell these manufacturers we don't like what they do is simply taking our money elsewhere
