SHAZAMM, 24 Nov 2021Dude where are you getting these numbers? 16 bit...we just ... moreNothing is good much for a phone, which could record 4k much before laptops and many high end desktops could even playback 4k. Much like how smartphones started recording 8k well before most desktops could even playback 8k.
Also, there have been many smartphone image sensors that could do 12-bit. Sensor makers probably left them at 10-bit, because of the ever increasing resolution, and the fact that most people don't push smartphone photo edit as far as the ones taken with much larger sensors. 14-bit and 16-bit HDR, compressed, could be superb for improving low light pics, improving sharpness, upressing it, and also pushing grading capabilities way further.

Anonymossy, 25 Nov 2021Well this aged poorly.Nope it aged perfectly well. I saw the article I can almost guarantee you're thinking of. (I mean it was posted before I commented that) It's meaningless. Prototypes can have any kind of cooling solution the manufacturer wants. And even an 855 could hit 1 million points with good enough cooling and good enough clocks.

Qualcomm once again made the terrible decision of going with Samsung so it will once again overheat.

Skip any phones with the 888 or Gen1. Wait until a phone with the Dimensity 7000 or 9000 releases (preferably the 9000) and get that. Unless of course, you want your phone to overheat.

Qualcomm: "Snapdragon 900? Nahhhh that makes too much sense, lets go with the Snapdragon 8 gen1"

Eh they probably knew the performance gains over the 888 would be borderline nonexistent (due to them once again going with Samsung's terrible nodes) so they couldn't go with such a bold new naming scheme. Instead they had to go with this to "reduce confusion" when in reality it's more confusing. I mean it's just like Intel's terrible naming scheme.

My next phone will have a dimensity 9000 chip. I'm done with overpriced, overrated, under-performing chips with incremental upgrades and 2 year support from qualcomm forever. I was waiting for a worthy competitor all those years, and it's here. Mediatek for me thanks.
