Qualcomm confirms Snapdragon 8 Gen1 name, will unveil it on November 30

I guess the naming is an improvement, although the old naming was already mostly alright - the higher the number, the better it was, basically (for example 855 vs 888).
Then again they would've had to change the naming next year anyway if they kept the previous naming scheme (can't go much higher than 898. Only option would be 899).

It seems like Qualcomm is bringing Snapdragon Windows ARM CPU naming scheme to smartphone chipset. Made total sense right there.

What about plus version, will it call snapdragon 8 gen1+ ? And Qualcomm focus on 5g so no more 4g soc anymore? If this true mediatek will laugh and thanks for Qualcomm because mediatek will have larger market now ( not all around the world have 5g yet maybe in 3-4 years in future).

Hopefully, the upcoming 4nm Samsung fabbers aren't as hot as their 5nm fabbers. It'll be good news, because it'll also mean Exynos chips that run cooler as well.

This is just to lure us into wanting a Windows on ARM machine as the naming matches the already existing PC SoC scheme. I wouldn't be mad if true but Qualcomm seems like a pain to work with (especially when they are in a monopoly position) so I guess PC makers are waiting for alternatives/competition

After the announcement of MediaTek's Dimensity 9000 5G SoC, Snapdragon, Exynos and Apple are under tremendous pressure to have an SoC is also atleast many iterations better than the last one. Especially for imaging and gaming.
Smartphone SoCs need to create compressed (atleast) 16-bit HDR RAW capable cameras. That way, imaging sensor manufacturers will also be pushed to create the next generation of Computational Photography super-sensor. Right now, the generational improvements in imaging sensors is too minor to be noticed. The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 seems capable of doing 4k (8.3MP?) at 810fps (270fps on each sensor at 4k). Which suggests it should easily be able to do Full Res 12MP photos at well over 480fps on a single camera. Which means it had a lot of information to play with in HDR, especially if it has 18-bit (HDR RAW) capabilities.
Snapdragon has to therfore ensure, that this Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 has some serious Imaging, AI and Processing capabilities to give the Dimensity 9000 a run for its money.

Would have started with Snapdragon 9 Gen 1 instead. Seems appropriate.

Nyahahaha Qualcomm new naming scheme is not new, they should focus on more advancement of their top tier chips to mitigate the overheating of their future architectures or lineups. Plus securing an advance nodes from TSMC is a must, the low, low-mid or mid tier like 200/400/600 series or the future 2gen/4gen/6gen Snapdragon should be in the hands of Samsung Foundry and some the 6gen should be fine with TSMC nodes. The 7gen and 8gen should always be stick to TSMC. While we wait for the fruition of Nuvia acquisition of Qualcomm we might see a future Snapdragon 8gen , as a M1 pro max like performance or a ala Intel Alderlake/ Meteorlake chips in a Angstrom node size that can be use in both Smartphones, Tablets, PC( Desktop/Laptop) devices. Nyahahaha Mediatek slapping Qualcomm right now to wakeup because they become lazy while they’ve been kick out in throne as a top smartphone chips. The ignorant fanboys pf both sides are stupid too. Remember Snapdragon 888/888+ is already said it needs advance cooling tech or design so smartphone makers should try to catchup in someways with their suppliers specs of the chips to unlock full performance or limit. So they cannot slacks on cheap cooling systems design for Snapdragon 888/888+, IMHO the Qualcomm is at its fault too not teaming up from makers if this kind of beastly specs is good for consumers because we already know its a high quality chips but the consumers are in trouble of overheating and battery drain. While I’m also applauded the strategy of Mediatek focusing CPU performance and more advance design sheets they license from ARM is good for consumers and manufacturers. Mediatek also give us a bang for the back 5g chips while Qualcomm is being greedy and lazy. The only not good from Mediatek GPU is their budget chips and medium tier is fooking sucks LMFAO!!!! Nyahahaha 😹😹😹 well its a major drawback while its also good for consumers to taste a balance smartphone. Hope Mediatek open up their chip drivers codes for developers so its easy to optimize it.
