Not comparable to Silicon Valley, but close. Also, it's huge. Similar expertise and facilities don't exist in most of Europe, along with extremely high taxes.

.alpha, 24 Nov 2021US is forcing TSMC and Samsung to transfer technology to US... moreYou do realise that most of the work and foundations that these companies (TSMC and Samsung) rely on, to actually make chipsets comes from the USA.
It's the initial investment, research, development, and funding that made it possible. If you look into it carefully, half of it is from universities and the other is from corporations. The chip fabs actually make agreements and licenses to use those technologies. It's "not much" but when you compound 1-few% of a dollar, yearly, over millions and millions of chips... well, it adds up to a lot and rather quickly.
On top of that, the USA actually has laws and courts designed to protect intellectual property. These factors are not as true in China. It's for that reason that MediaTek chooses to break International Law and doesn't provide sources, kernels, drivers and documentation for their chipsets. Their reasoning was this: if we do that, then our rivals (Xiaomi, VIA, RockChip, Allwinner, AMLogic, Unisoc) will just copy our work for free, and then our profits will be reduced due to the stiffer competition. Why? Because licensing an ARM chip is one thing, stamping out the hardware is another thing, and building efficient drivers is another. It costs a lot of money to optimise things well, and that is why, Qualcomm's Adreno iGPUs perform the way they do. They're better than Samsung's Mali iGPU, and much better performance of iGPU/driver when compared to a Chinese vendor like Meizu or Lenovo using a MediaTek (ARM Mali) chipset.
Case in point: it was only in 2017 when China actually learned to make a ballpoint pen!

They have a lot of problems themselves, I am left but I have to agree that Texas is one better under red than blue unlike other reds.

If Samsung/TSMC find Intel doing something shady, a sue will fall on them. AMD already did it in the past, and they won.
