Check it out, maybe you'll learn a thing or two about where the brand stands today, how it operates, how it makes money and how much it has grown. Maybe it will help you grow out of your ancient stereotypes about Chinese brands

The best device in the market right now is the p50 pro and the s21 ultra. The iPhone 13 pro is good, but I can't buy it for a lot of reasons

This is weird having Sony Xperia 1 III top 6 by fans rating here at GSMArena, Top 3 by fans among flagships, but not being presented at this shortlist nor at buyers guide.
GSMArena definitely hates their brand for some reason.

Anonymous, 29 Nov 2021Sorry I see u mean the frame not the back, lol. True, plas... moreAlso a plastic back won't break in impact, but a glass back would. You won't need a metal frame if plastic back is used.
Plastic frame won't absorb enough impact to prevent a glass back from fracturing. If use glass back, must use a metal frame.
If you plastic back, plastic frame is fine

However, combining plastic frame with glass back makes it even worse. A plastic back could bend with the plastic frame and not snap. But the glass back won't keep up with the plastic frame, and it'll snap.
Unfortunately so many manufacturing are putting this glass back gimmick, even if they end up using a plastic frame to cut cost, this makes durability poor.

AlienKiss, 29 Nov 2021Poco also has plastic frame, USB 2.0 when there is 3.2 avai... moreLol don't know basic physics. Its glass that breaks on impact (i.e. drop), not plastic. If not then why do they put plastic/rubber cases on glass phone?
Glass just doesn't scratch or bend easily since it's stiffer. But mind that glass will snap if you try to bend it like a plastic.
In real life, scratching isn't fatal (i.e. phone will work absolutely fine) and it's highly unlikely to bend your phone too much even accidentally. Rather, most of the damage is suffered due to cracks from drops. As a result, plastic such as polycarbonate is a much better and more practical choice of material. Not to mention it saves weight too.
The manufacturers like to put gimmicks on their phones such as all these glasses (except the display of course you must use glass there) which drive up the price of flagships beyond imagination. If they used plastic things will be a lot cheaper.
A flagship killer should rightfully get rid of gimmicks like glass backs to keep price competitive. Unfortunately, nowadays they're putting gimmicks like glass backs (and rather unusable macro and ultrawide cameras) and getting rid of useful features like headphone jack and micro SD card slot.

Anonymous, 28 Nov 2021 poco f3 ring u a bell? Poco also has plastic frame, USB 2.0 when there is 3.2 available, splash proof only.
Plastic frame is a BIG deal, because plastic breaks under the stress of a drop, while a stainless steel or aluminum frame will just bend or absorb the shock. It has nothing to do with having a cover on. That's just a bonus.
Since you are so obsessed with the budget, how much will a Poco sell for as a second hand product, let's say compared to an iPhone or a Note Ultra?
On the long run, a high end flagship offers more and has a lot better specs, will perform better, will have better software support, will sell better as a second hand product and will definitely last longer (especially if you don't switch phones like underwear).

Android.Authority, 28 Nov 2021Flagship killers only compromise on camera to some extent.
... moreIsn't that same for almost everything? The extra 10-20% features/performance/comfort is reserved for the premium class which will cost a big extra money?
Some will be happy because they saw the worth of their money and some will just be happy cause they went for the extra 10-20%.

Anonymous, 28 Nov 2021Interesting. Which Xiaomi phones made $2 per device? In their early days, profit margins were really low, especially on Redmi devices.
They packed good hardware for the price and established themselves in the market by gaining the trust of the people.
From miui, a software company making money through theme store to the greatness it achieved in the past two years, they have come a long way.
And with the recent success, they have developed haters. Haters in the form of brand fannboys whose favorite brands have been left behind.

Flagships ~13promax...runned up pixel 6pro
F. killers~x poco f3...runned up by realme Gt 5g
Camera chaps~Mi11ultra...runned up by galaxy s21utra
Premium all round~galaxy a52s...runned up by realme Gt master
Midrange ~x note10pro...runned up by 1plus nord ce 5g
With d table above 2021 clearly saw d weak point of SAMSUNG (a result of eliminating the notes lineup, silenting d sFE lineup for now and merging up huge resources to fix up d flips n foldables)_thanks to d s21ultra n d awesome a52. Actually they were left alone in d battle field (where Chinese and American technologies are trending every single day).
I'm not just been fan-boyish but I'm really proud of SAMSUNG...sure rumors already have it they are coming back BIG 2022.🔥🔥🔥

Oppo and Vivo phones can be very pricey, the lower end models like the Oppo A series or Vivo Y series come with weak chipset despite compensated with good build quality. Xiaomi keeps slapping users with ads.
Why is Xiaomi making less profit on their phones? Because of ads. Buyers are fo0led into this. People in here don’t appear to understand how marketing works.

Anonymous, 28 Nov 2021Do not wrongly think these phones have less than $300 profi... moreThey have very low profit margins especially in budget and mid range segment.
The cost cutting is in the form of lack of marketing, by selling it online, etc.
There are some Xiaomi phones which have made as low as 2$ profit per device, and other companies have sold phones at a loss (in their early days) to get market presence.
Oppo and Vivo budget-mid range phones were expensive and weren't selling as much as Realme and Redmi.
So they started new lineups which were exclusively sold online, thereby cutting marketing costs and the associated costs that come with selling the phone in physical stores.
Even Samsung had to cut their profit margin to stay relevant in that segment.
