He compared it to Windows vs Mac? Doesn't he realise where Microsoft is today, compared to Apple? Might be a bad example lol.

That's the point. Because iOS is concentrated into one company, they limit their potential sales. You could get a PC with Windows on it on many different brands of computers... It's a rational comparison.

This is not really a fair competition. Just compare the number of Android devices and the number of iOS devices. Moreover the Android devices are available in every price segment. Apple does not even focus on becoming the largest user platform, it focuses on its own niche set of users and prefers quality over quantity, not that Android is bad, but this comparison is not fair. You can compare an S3 with an iPhone 5 but not Android with iOS in terms of share of users. You may compare the two as an OS though, that is entirely different.
