The ultra wide and the selfie cameras will be the same as on the S21 and S21+.

This is much better tho. These big ratios just make the phones look ridiculously tall and skinny. Hell they should just go back to the S8/9 ratio of 18:9 which was perfect

These are old cameras from 2 decades ago with old sensors tech, also smaller.
Lens of glass made in 2000 and used by 📷 of larger sensor is better than lenses of phones.

Do not compare those $200 cameras with 1/2.5" or 1/2.3" with phones. Old sensors, old processors.

You have impression phones are much better because most abuse sharpening. No real details. 8MP cannot show skins imperfection at the level front cam of pixel does. All oversharpening at the most possible.

TheLastOracle, 29 Nov 2021Would love to see gsmarena do interviews with smartphone op... more"whether smartphone plastic lenses truly resolve less than glass lenses of the same size"
It depends. There are glass lenses for DSLRs that cost 300$ and can perform noticeably worse than smartphone camera lenses, especially when used wide open. It seems that it is harder to make good lenses, if the distance to the sensor is high. Zoom lenses can also be worse than prime lenses, smartphones usually use prime lenses. Some DSLR lenses suffer much more from chromatic aberration than smartphone lenses. There are lenses that suffer from a huge amount of field curvature.

A lens doesn't need to be expensive in order to have a high resolution. You can buy plastic/glass surveillance lenses for just 5-30$ and even though the quality is not fantastic (worse than smartphone lenses), such lenses can still benefit in the center of the frame, when you use a higher resolution than 12 megapixels. Surveillance wide angle lenses that have the same quality as smartphone wide angle lenses can cost several hundred dollars. As I said, it seems to be much harder to make good lenses, if the distance to the sensor is high (interchangeable lens cameras, surveillance cameras).

A fact is: smartphone plastic lenses can resolve a huge amount of details. See how sharp this 64 megapixel is:

Smartphone lenses have usually no issues to outresolve a 12 megapixel sensor. That's why moiré is visible. It's also the reason why the 48 megapixel mode of the Huawei Honor View 20 resolves noticeably more detail than the 12 megapixel mode, even at the edges of the frame.

(Of course one needs to download images in order to compare them)

There's a reason previously marginalized audio player manufacturers are on a rise again. I mean, I like my Buds Pros, but I would never pay Samsung money to get bluetooth sound that's on par with a par of 20 buck wired earbuds, which is what you get with bluetooth.

AnonF-1013367, 29 Nov 2021how is 1/3.94" better then 1/3.30" on the s21?The S21 doesn't have a tele camera. It has a 28mm equivalent 64 megapixel camera. At 72mm, the effective sensor area of the S21 is approximately 6mm², smaller than the area of a 1/4" type sensor. Also, the effective sensor area / f-number² ratio wouldn't be worse at 72mm.

Nonetheless, it isn't a good decision because such a 64 megapixel Bayer sensor allows for a high quality digital zoom whereas a 3x camera doesn't necessarily improve the image quality between 1x-3x.

Also, there's no phone on the market with such a high resolution and Bayer array. Quad Bayer raw files often suffer from artifacts because pixels are rearranged artificially. But this 64 megapixel sensor isn't a Quad Bayer sensor. If Samsung offered 64 megapixel raw files, these could be the best high resolution smartphone raw files on the market.
Currently, the only way to get high resolution Bayer raw files is buying a large camera.

None of them have processors powerful enough to take sensors to their 100%.
Not even computer CPUs can do it.

There are mamny techs they could bring to phones, but it is not worth because of the price.
No OEM would pay like $100 for single unit of sensor when they can get regular sensors for $20-30/unit.

Boring without competition. Everything the same or worse.

Imagine how much lighter those 600mm f4 telephotos (as big as an arm) would be with plastic and also cheaper (there are lenses that cost over $10000 and are not even yet those overpriced from Leica).
Binoculars, microscopes, cameras and telescopes all use glass lenses.

Phones use plastic because : cheaper, thinner and lighter.

Making all 6 or 7 elements of all cameras (rear and front) of glass would increase a lot the costs and weight.

📷 lens makers just slap their logo on their phones. None of them makes lenses for phones (except sony for own phones). And zeiss with the coating...

Lens makers bring new version of existing lenses because old generations cannot deal with high resolution nor high frame rates. A lens made by Canon 20 years ago cannot kkep up with speed of 1DXiii. Lens made by Sony 7 years ago cant resolve the 61MP from A7r4 nor the 30fps of A1.

Ignore when some dumb people here claim a palstic lens can deal with 64 or 108MP.
Otherwise, photos from phones would not look like 2MP when viewed on high quality monitor the photographers use to edit their work.
