It's supposed to be more reliable and cheaper to make.

iH8allFanboys, 09 Dec 2021You are not getting my point at all. I see it, as you do. O... moreYeah, that darned Merican company Samsung. Typical that they always pull the race card against Asian companies.....

It's sad that USA, is the main reason for the X2 not being widely available because it has great potential to be a great phone. We could have figured out what Huawei did to make the crease less visible but again, USA got jealous, and now the phone is only available in China

Obviously, you want me to feel the same about Huawei with its big bulge that actually helps the display. The people who reviewed(unfortunately no were as near as popular as the Fold 3. Wonder why? Give ya a hint, it starts with U and ends with A) say how the crease is less on the Huawei. So it MUST be doing something.

Looking at the pick you provided it looks like the hinge is the same size but possibly the screen is recessed slightly into those thick boi slabs at the hinge reducing crease pressure? There's no way that tight gap is creating less of a crease when using the same display tech.

They BOTH use Samsung displays. The bend specs is the same for both, Huawei makes a braindead design for cosmetics, that makes it a chore to actually use the phone. Guess why no one bought the abomination from Huawei?

That bulge on the x2 is overshadowed by that GAP on the Fold 2(Fold 3 because it's still the same phone). Even then, it helps the X2 be more symmetrical when closed, unlike the Fold. The Fold looks like the display is about to come out of the shell of the device. THAT'S A DESIGN FLAW that Huawei fixed

AnonD-762416, 05 Dec 2021How about you look at THE PICTURE that I provided instead o... moreYES, WE SEE IT, and guess what? If that bothers you more than that TEXAS size gap on the Fold that is SLOWLY destroying the display then ok Samsung is the Innovator...You are completely lost and do not understand what we are both saying... That bulge on the x2 is not the complaint that everyone is talking about(including this very website). ONLY YOU. HOW IT'S FOLD is the subject at hand and Huawei did it right. That's it. To me, Flex mode is useless if it compromises the display and would wait until at least the 6th generation of the Fold or until Samsung stop being lazy and fix the crease or if they finally release their rollable display. Stop with your garbage already.

Also, let's get this out the way...if Samsung didn't have the U.S by their side, and Huawei didn't get banned for dumb reasons(the U.S getting butthurt because of China), Samsung would go back to being a follower like they did when Apple was popular.

THE PICTURE that shows how f cking massive the bulge is around the entire display on that phone?

Flex mode is cool but if it causes a crease that's noticeable and I can FEEL it, that's gonna bother me WAY more than not having flex mode. If I need to take a pic, I have the BIG cover display to take a photo. Samsung is overcompensating for the sake of it and it's great sometimes but overkill and excessive in most cases with diminishing returns.

The main thing about the device is the foldable display. If that's compromised then what's the point of the device?

Read this and go back and read his comments again because obviously, you missed his point by being a disgusting fanboy. He likes how the folding mechanism is treating the main display by using a teardrop design so that the crease is less noticeable and not in the way. Also, that article states that the hinge is 2x stronger than their previous foldable so being wobbly and plasticky isn't an issue(and possibly made up). Samsung has the hinge motion down to a science, I'll give them that. That air gap is unacceptable on a tablet phone(but ok for a flip phone) and looks downright embarrassing next to the X2(as it shows on that article for a better comparison than that other photo you posted).

It's about time Huawei is making a Flip rival so I grab popcorn and see Samsung Fanboys cry and get mad lol

AnonD-762416, 01 Dec 2021If you keep ignoring that image I posted, showing why the H... moreI just realized I somehow responded twice with the same post when one response was meant for your post. I'm not ignoring the pic. Without me seeing both devices in person, it is difficult to say how much of a difference the raised bezel makes. We are talking millimeters. Possibly less. No one that reviewed or compared the phone said the gap is lessened because of the rim. Also, the Moto razr does not have a raised bezel, but still closes "flat".

The wedge hinge was not perfect on the Razr. Not only did it create two creases, it also created a ripple between those creases. I am praising Huawei for what they did, but there is no telling what the long term durability will be because people with the X2 are rare to find. I think Samsung would do a better job with it though.

I played with my co-worker's Flip the other day and it would be silly for me to argue Samsung absolutely needs to remove the gap. It's pretty much a perfect design. Even with the gap it is compact and slim. The space gives you a place to put your thumb to open it with one hand so it benefits the Flip more than the Fold. But, the Fold and Flip could do with a battery upgrade and I think folding them as tight as possible allows Samsung to do that without adding too much bulk.

I've been using it for months now and Fold 2 users have enjoyed it for over a year. I used to read on my Fold like a book so I've been flexing it before Samsung introduced the locking feature.

This was never an "either" "or" scenario for me. I'm no hingeneer but I don't see any reason for a trade off. Give me the wedge hinge with Flex mode. I don't want any compromises to any other aspect of the Fold's hinge.

Even if they launch this with a lower price, they still wont be able to sell it lower than $1000 at starting point. Remember that their X2 started selling at almost $2800. Even if they try to sell it at same price range Samsung Flip3, which now sells for about 800, huawei cant outsell it because of all the restrictions Huawei has now.

I guess it's nice to have a nearly visible (but still there) crease but if the phone itself lacks convenience where is the advantage to that tear drop hinge?

If you're honest with yourself, you know you're wrong.

What Huawei is probably trying to sell here is, lowering the expectations on some budget alternative they'll try offer next. My guess? Some plastic phone with a plastic screen and a wobbly plastic hinge. All to compete with the engineering marvel Samsung actually delivers on the phone you can currently get for 600 bucks on some black Friday deals.
