Samsung seems to be having trouble with yield.

I am using Mi 11x amd research anywhere 870 is still best of best chipset even in 2022 after 888, 888+ and Gen 1 all three extreme heating, 870 is still the most stable chipset, For me it's the best chipset of Snapdragon till now.

YUKI93, 08 Dec 2021Hence, the existence of Snapdragon 778G. That is, basically... moreSnapdragon 778G exists because Snapdragon 780G was too expensive,
during pandemic They need cheaper alternatives albeit performance lower .

Snapdragon 870 exists because exynos 1080 outperform Snapdragon 865,
Qualcomm needs cheaper alternative yet better then Snapdragon 865 .
And snapdragon 870 indeed throttling alot because the over clocked .

The 8 gen 2 with Nuvia designed cores with bigger cache with tsmc manufacturing will be a huge upgrade. the performance gap between that chip with the upcoming A16 bionic will be less compared to the A14 and sd888.

Obviously samsung will use their own soc on their phones so better keep an eye on other manufacturers who will use tsmc based soc.

YUKI93, 08 Dec 2021So there will be some batch of Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset th... moreExactly my point. People paying crazy dough for phones having these chips (supposed flagships) do not have to go through the torment of lottery system, after paying that crazy money just to be sure of getting the better fabrication.

Qualcomm seems to really have dropped the ball on this one (AGAIN). Lord alone knows what's going on within the higher management there.

This is downright wrong and unfair to the people who buy phones based on these chips.
Either change something really minor and rename the chip to something else, to signify the difference in the fab process.
People buying phones based on these chips are going to shell out beaucoup cash-money and it's thoroughly unfair to them when they get the frying pan chipsets coming out of the ill-equipped Shamesung foundries.

Skil, 07 Dec 2021Lots of people here don't know what they're talki... moreYou can notice the difference. TSMC has better thermal management than Samsung. That is why the Snapdragon 870, which is the second overclocked version of the Snapdragon 865, never suffer from overheating issues. It's the same story with Mediatek Dimensity 1200 despite using the same ARM Cortex-A78 CPU as Snapdragon 888 and 888+.

Anonymous, 07 Dec 2021You can't moves from one fab to the others because the... moreHence, the existence of Snapdragon 778G. That is, basically, a reworked Snapdragon 780G for TSMC 6nm fabrication.

So there will be some batch of Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset that will be made by TSMC? While this is good news, I wonder how we can differentiate between the one made by Samsung and TSMC.

Takes time to integrate and start producing and TSMC is basically fully booked. This chipset will probably be the + variant.

turnout Qualcomm have chip design ready for both TSMC and Samsung wafer, huh.

Mediatek must be lucky to strike good deal with TSMC.

Don’t repeat the history of the iPhone 6S.

Some 6Ss has good performance, but others thermal throttles a lot.

One of the worst phones of its time

You can't moves from one fab to the others because the fab own the chipset design rights you need new design from scratch to created the same one and that cost a lot .
