I have samsung tab s7plus over iPad 2020. You know what make me dissapointed after months use it? Both operating system and chipset are same with smartphone! The only what make them so different is the size! It can not make a tablet experience except a very large smartphone!
iPad is different. It use different OS it doesn't use iOS but iPadOS. And for iPad 2021 it use M1 chipset that similar with a laptop power because it use in macbook. It can make an iPad user experience use truly tablet.
You can happy when use iPad for editing video with many layers it so fast because of it chipset. But when you use an android tablet it just make you feel using a very large screen of smartphone. Because tab s7plus use same chipset as galaxy s phones. Same OS as well.
I am scared to imagine if tab s8 ultra having the same way. Even it will using Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen1 (4 nm) and new Android 12 with ONE UI 4.1.

i actually prefer the wider aspect ratio over the ipad's aspect ratio, something about the ipad's doesnt sit well with me, but the tab's does. personal preference tho, i still would go with an android tablet any day as they are more reliable and more powerful, seriously, my brother's ipad failed so quick. excited for this new one, the 8gen1 looks really promising lol.

Anonymous, 17 Dec 2021Even Apple gave up on it. They most use 3:2 or 1.41:1 these... moreiPad and iPad Pro 12 are 4:3 (16:12). iPad Air and iPad Pro 11 are little narrower due to their specific size and matrix cut. They are 16:11.2. It's still much closer to 4:3 than to dystrophy-looking 16:10 or fat 3:2.

Anonymous, 17 Dec 2021again the right decision.16:10 tablets are not popular. It's a niche product. Hence why iPad is dominating tablet market.

Unless watching video, my tablet's orientation is always on its short end like when using a smartphone. Why didn't Samsung put that lothsome, nonfunctional notch on the upper short side? A notch doesn't add any value.

YUKI93, 17 Dec 2021Normal average consumers wouldn't care much about high... more"Normal average consumers" are unlikely to spend big on the cordon bleu premium flagship.
You should keep up with the discussion. The $1.2k+ S8+ Ultra should have 4K res. The base S8 can have 720p and headphone jack if that is as much as the average customer needs.
Come to think of it, isn't that the point of the mid-range lines? Most folks buy mid-range products, and they get poor PPI and the so-called "useful" features like microSD card at affordable prices. But if you're going to market a humongous 14.6" all-you-can-have buffet tablet at record prices to enthusiasts and power users, add a 4K screen. Don't give me that average person crap, average people don't spend $1.2k on one device.
I used a 4K OLED Dell XPS 17 and it's light and day compared to my current 2K LG Gram 17 (got the Gram because of the lightweight; my monitor is 4K). On a 14.6" screen, 4K would be fabulous.

Scram, 17 Dec 2021I miss the PPI war in the early days of Android. . This s... moreNormal average consumers wouldn't care much about high PPI screens. 1080p is still more than good enough for most people. I even see people who are still okay with the 720p resolution in 2021. It's the same story with a high refresh rate screen as not everyone cares about having a 120Hz refresh rate screen. They only care about useful features like a headphone jack or microSD card slot or even Samsung DeX.

Annyms, 17 Dec 2021Don't have to "eye-test". The articles state... moreWe'll have to wait and see.
I'm leaning towards the 6.3mm being an inaccurate measurement. it happens with rumors. For instance, the last rumor claimed the max RAM on the Ultra will be 12GB. This leak claims it will be 16GB which is more believable as the iPad Pro tops out at 16GB RAM and the Surface Pro 8 maxes out at 32GB RAM.
The iPad Pro 12.9 (2021) has a slightly larger screen-to-body ratio (as its bezels are marginally thinner) than the Tab S7+ (released in 2020). I fail to understand the rationale behind Samsung adding a lip to the already sizeable bezels of the Tab S7+ on a new 14.6 tablet. Do you have any idea how unwieldy such a tablet would be?
It would also be a mindbogglingly st*pid design decision. Where rather than shave off bezels except for the camera stretch (which is what it looks like in the renders if you zoom in on the front cameras section), they leave the bezels as is and add a lip underneath the camera. That in my opinion is a fireable offense.
I have the M1 Max MacBook Pro 16 and the notch is there because they shaved bezels. They didn't leave the bezels unchanged and added a lip underneath the camera. That is precisely what you're claiming Samsung intends to do with the S8 Ultra and I find that hard to believe as it is ret*rded.

Annyms, 17 Dec 2021iPad Pro has 6mm bezels with front cam and face id. This ha... more"Similar" is a misleading term to use. From the eye test, the S8 Ultra appears to have at least 33% less bezels than the iPad Pro.
The only alternatives to a notch with the ultra-thin bezels are a punch pill and under-display cameras. And Samsung is probably waiting until the Fold 4 to introduce Gen 2 UDCs. There is simply no way Samsung is using the same UDC in the Fold 3 in their top-of-the-line tablet with the same screen size as a conventional laptop that's meant to compete against the excellent front cams on the iPad Pro and Surface Pro 8.

Most people will get the S8 and S8+. Very, very few people need a 14.6 inch tablet. The S8+ has the iPad Pro-sized bezels and is very capable. I'll be getting the Ultra because I need that 14 inch and the 16GB RAM. I bought the M1 Max MacBook 16 with the notch. Unlike Apple, I know the notch on the Ultra is temporary and will be gone in no more than 2 generations. It appears to me like the OG Fold. Had a weird notch; but that was replaced with a punch hole in the Fold 2. And on my Fold 3, there's a UDC instead.
