That’s right, the company is targeting one specific device of its more popular rival.

An OEM with a not so great reputation in the local market shouldn't have "taking shots at much bigger player" as their main marketing strategy.

They could have done carrier collaborations, offered better trade-ins, or heck even had a fire sale on the device.
They should be looking to sell this device with any means available, losses should expected and acceptable since this is a new price segment for these guys. Their main aim with this device should be to get a place in the market. After that, from Gen2 or Gen3 onwards they can try capitalizing on their market share.

I see what India is trying to do. Putting aside the conflict between India and China, India is trying to stop this trend of "much cheaper and most available smartphone comes from China". I believe a lot of country should do the same just to protect themselves from this monopoly that china has established on the smartphone market.

Carol, 05 Jan 2022Am pretty sure there is no way one can make a smartphone ch... moreTo my knowledge, India's 3 major smartphone brands have a bad reputation. So some losses in their first major entry into the low midranger market should be something they should have braced for.
Either that or they should've marketed and sold this phone under a new name.

Honestly, it's ridiculous just how bad the local OEMs are in some countries. Carbon (Germany), BLU (USA), and 3 Indian brands (Karbonn, Lava and Micromax) are the ones that standout in how bad they are.

The only decent OEMs imo are Sharp (JP), Gigaset (DE) and Fairphone (NL). They have their respective flaws but at least they seem like they're trying to make a decent product and not trying to sell you snake oil.

I'll be honest: MTK 810, one in orange and other in regular grey is not likely to be a "planned attempt" at misleading the public, even the typical nwebie will be able to differentiate.

Cheaper made and more ads infested does not exist, so to cut lower would bring nothing but a quick demise to the brand.

Its funny and sounds silly if someone, anyone would like to swap a lot better device froma lot better brand for a weaker one and less popular such as Lava brand.

Considering the political tension between China and India, I can see why someone like Lava will do this.

Seriously, i don't think Lava can match the after support service & quality of Realme.

In terms of specification and software it is really good but LAVA rarely commits in making built quality smartphones. Anyone can go and check out Gupta's Information YouTube channel.

The bottom line is they will be able to sell some of these but in the long run, they won't be able to build a brand identity. This is a quick buck money scheme, nothing else. Their after sales support, oh my, I couldn't even imagine.

As long as a company doesn't actaully just straight up give a warning or sue the company for copying its fine. Plus tell me one occasion when chinese copied some other brands (in phone market). But yea my point stands this is very unprofessional to exchange a phone of other brand with better specs and software update than a local phone with chinese components.

I hope lava is trying to give the experience of its latest Agni phone to users of realme with almost same price. Then users will decide which one would be best.
