Maybe I'm a simpleton, but according to physics and common sense that's what would be supposed to happen.
You might have 4 pixels to work with but if each of them is 25% of the size of what a single pixel would be, they're gonna be less accurate and you're gonna end up joining 4 pixels with less accuracy and hope that the final output has a smaller error of what the single pixel had, having a smaller accuracy. In pixels with big enough size to have decent accuracy, maybe this process will have better results, but with very small pixels this would definitely not be the best implementation, it's just done for marketing purposes

It's just unnecessarily dividing a pixel in 4 just for the sake of advertising quadruple pixels. What is the real use of quad Bayer sensors other than marketing purposes. I'm just an enthusiast, never really searched about that theme on the internet because I just assume it's all marketing, but if someone here knows a valid reason for it and would care to explain, I would truly appreciate it!

This is most likely a Sony camera sensor... an IMX 7xx perhaps?
It's the software and AI which makes smartphone photography great, compare Pixel phones which have modest camera hardware to those Chinese phones with an amazing spec sheet but disappointing results.
For some things, you have to invest in R&D and innovate, you can't assemble some hardware at a sweatshop, copy some software features and expect similar results.

Since I have an iphone 12 pro max and a Samsung S20 with punchhole and 48MP camera, I am skipping this iPhone too. I expect the 15 to bring a fresh look and some more innovation.

Only one good camera and optimized software triumphs those 100/100 times.. releasing 3-4 exactly same flagships with different brands under same umbrella.. but cant give 3-4 years of update to them.. most android phones are absolute trash

Look at DXO mark chart which phone is in top 3 with 12MP sensor it’s the iPhone and that’s even with 3x zoom

And on android world its common. The tech capabilities are not fully utilised even what was acessible with SD865 or 855..

Reality is, that the precious A7s3 uses quad bayer sensor. That IMX510 is actual 48MP sensor, then some guys dissasembled and put it under microscope :)) crazy reality, now you can't trust any claims that comes from big players.
