Rkm, 13 Jan 2022"If treated right" is a key part, also under idea... moreOne of the posters has a unit of Mi 10 Ultra with a lens that has issues with resolving details on the left side of the frame, so that may be why. In fact the samples posted by the other user have much more even sharpness across the frame.

YUKI93, 13 Jan 2022I wonder if Apple will use a Quad Bayer 48MP sensor or a na... moreSince full-res images from a Quad Bayer can be just as sharp as those from a comparable regular Bayer sensor given the right processing, the benefit of using a "real" 48MP sensor is severely limited nowadays.
One of the problems with using a regular Bayer CFA is the slower readout speed like the other person already has pointed out, and the other is increased noise in low light. Quad Bayer can solve both of them through 4-in-1 binning.

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2022I suppose the imx??? used by 13 pro has same 10ms seen from... moreAccording to one of the DPReview's videos, the sensor found in over 2-year-old iPhone 11 had a readout speed of 6.25ms - And since Apple advertises an even "faster" sensor for the latest iPhone, I believe the readout time is even smaller than either of IMX555 or 557.
"Speed is why the full resolution mode is less processed compared to the 1/4 (or 1/9) resolution. Less software tricks are applied"
That's something to do with the *processing* speed though, not the readout speed like you're implying.

Street Puppy, 13 Jan 2022You cant use these examples.
Phones with largest bayer ... moreDo you want me to point to the fact that Honor View 20 from 2018 was capable of capturing a lot of details using AI Ultra Clarity 48MP mode despite small-ish 1/2 inch sensor size? Some Realme phones can also shoot stacked 64MP images using GCam (although you do need Magisk for this), and their sensor sizes are smaller than that of the largest 12MP sensor ever put on a smartphone (1/1.61 inch on iPhone 13 Pro, or 1/1.31 inch if you count Xperia Pro-I).
"Sensor made by toshiba was not even BSI like current ones. Not even counting the much weaker ISP from the cpu, lack of proper AF system"
That's not relevant to the point I'm making, which is all about the high-resolution QB sensors and the extra details you're getting out of them. Nokia 808 can take very detailed-looking photos without much noise as long as you're in an evenly lit environment abundant with light. Mi 10 Ultra with GCam still surpasses it. Go to the DPReview forum to check out the samples yourself, you'll see what I mean.

Android.Authority, 13 Jan 2022You were complaining about iPhone camera quality in Auto mo... moreI carry two phones separately for work and personal use. I bought iPhone to replace my Galaxy S10, which I hadn't used much outside testing/using the company's smartphone app, checking emails and texting/calling my colleagues and clients. I didn't have any expectations for iPhone's camera whatsoever and I'll be buying another phone to replace my P30, the secondary device I've been using to shoot the vast majority of the photos that I have taken.

[deleted post]None of the phones with quadbayer use single frame.
They all use frame stacking as default mode, some stack even 14 frames.
They all need to be equal to stack, reason hdr cannot handle motion.

I personally don't really hate Apple. I just don't like iOS. I think it's the one that gets people stuck on their ecosystem. But macOS, I enjoy it. Their roots are still computers and Macs do last longer than Windows PCs. I'd rank it Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Apple Watch, and then AirPods.

A7s3 has rolling shutter advantage because lower resolution scans faster, reason most of the 🎥 are 10 or 12MP to record 4K.

More megapixels and more ram don't always mean better but don't be so ignorant as numbers matter too. Watch speed test iPhone with 6GB ram is faster than iPhone with 4GB ram. And many 108MP camera phones are actually good.

So, they got the best 4K video in the game, but the marketing isn't quite right so they are going to follow the big number narrative and try to balance marketing with big numbers. Can't advertise 8K with a 12 MP and also can't advertise 48 MP with 12 MP, even though 48 MP phone sensors are mostly 12 MP sensors with more sharpness and less photo quality.
Sony even uses a 12 MP full-frame sensor in their best enthusiast camera for video and photos, the video out of it is top-tier unmatched by any 24 MP or 44 MP camera on the market, and their photos are still more than enough for what 95% of photo what enthusiasts need and what 99.9% of what iPhone users need. I'm a fan of accurate colors and quality low light video and there's no gimmicky 8K or 48 MP that would make up for it. The 4K video will take a quality hit and the photos would be less color accurate. A bit bigger 12 MP sensor would be their move if the marketing department just ignored this one and accepted a loss of money for the sake of better quality. What's 8K for anyways, are you gonna film your trip to the Bahamas and watch it with all your friends and popcorn on your 8K TV, or are you just gonna film in 8K and show it to your friends in your 2K phone screen or see it by yourself on your 4K Macbook? But go right ahead, film in 8K because phone brands are telling you (K is the best think ever now, not only they will sell more phones because of the useless novelty, but you will also will be going more towards the 512 GB models that Apple conveniently sells you for just a bit more cash. Don't forget to film your cats in 8K ProRes too, don't worry about the file size, they will have a 2TB iPhone 14 Pro Max for you!
