This shot from the article really makes it look like an evil lair.

Android - Prime, 15 Jan 2022I thought the new qualcomm chips are made by Samsung now?Samsung couldn't supply enough so they went back to TSMC (I believe).

If half the world buys huawei because it's cheaper, then other manufacurers will want to compete = good for development and pricing.

Anonymous, 14 Jan 2022I know you’re trolling. But nevertheless let’s not forget t... moreA lot of equipment TSMC uses are made by European companies like Siemens that are heavily involved in various industries from medical equipment to home appliances to electric components like electric motors to whole vehicles like trains. These are tech giants whole world depends on, but don't really flash their company names around as they kinda don't need to.

It doesn't matter how many chip makers are out there, if my company makes a chip that is comparable to Qualcomms top tier chip I will price it accordingly.
Examples are Xiaomi and Huawei phones, once they were comparable to Samsung in quality the prices were raised to "compete" with Samsung's price gouging.
I think their should be 1 MASSIVE company that has strict regulations with profit limits and mandatory percentages put towards staff salary, r&d and environmental impacts.

Anonymous, 14 Jan 2022Because monopoly is never good for us consumers, they need ... moreBut that's not to be used as an excuse to deliver inferior product for price, as that too goes against consumers. Are the OEMs charging us any less for using inferior Samsung process? Nope, not even a bit.

When people pay huge sum for a flagship, they're not expecting a device that's overheating and battery drains fast due to "combatting monopoly" or whatever excuse.

One could say that Qualcomm could simply get Samsung to manufacture its budget or midrange chips and leave the near flagship and flagship to TSMC for example. But they've done exact opposite, to the point that 778g, 870 etc are better buys (in terms of value, heat management etc, not absolute performance) than 888, or maybe even 8 gen 1.

[deleted post]I know you’re trolling. But nevertheless let’s not forget the fact that TSMC relies on European and American companies for the actual manufacturing equipment.

It can also help alleviate the current chip shortages we are experiencing now. I hope Samsung LSI step up their game so they can compete head to head with TSMC.

alcatraz, 14 Jan 2022Go go go TSMC. We need cooler and less power hungry chips! ... moreLet's hope Huawei does...not! They have been trying to poach staff from TSMC and their chips will in all likelihood be used for mass surveillance purposes to further surpress human rights and freedom of speech. Anyone but Huawei.

I know this is a bit offtopic but can we critisize ARM a bit?!

Snapdragon doesn't even come close to Apple, and it's all being made by TSMC. It's a disgrace. The whole world of android vs apple, and android is losing? wtf... 😁

Go go go TSMC. We need cooler and less power hungry chips! 😁

It's great that they're investing big but..... If they're dominating they have no reason to keep prices low or offer more advanced production nodes. Everything will slow down eventually.

Let's hope that Huawei gets their shit together and starts putting some heat on the global chip market. In a way the US helped them set their aim. Maybe they can try to compete in the chip market.

Samsung is disappointing. Is TSMC bribing some people at Samsung to fumble the ball or what?

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2022TSMC is getting too big. Not good. Why is not good?, we all know Samsung EUV lithography sucks, only TSMC is doing the things right, while other manufactures like Global Foundries, China’s Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) and United Microelectronics Corporation which are on the top five are never mentioned nowhere, meaning that these can't even handle a business like AMD, NVIDIA, Apple and Qualcomm.

TSMC fanboy, yup , love a company that does efficiency and effectiveness
