"35mm is not for landscape by any means" to " I need 24mm " is flip-flopping around.

I also used the word "equivalent" which negates the crop factor and when not, I mentioned the format "apsc" ie, 10-20 = 15-30mm equivalent which includes what you mentioned, ie 18mm.

I also seem to have commented something on the lines 35mm + 18mm + 70mm would be great just a couple of comments below.

If you didn't read what I wrote completely or did proper research, stop wasting my time by replying to a super old comment. I don't mean the whole thread by that, just my reply to you.

And, most importantly, I really need a wider FoV, minimum 24mm. Doesn't matter what you experienced, I'm writing on behalf of myself, my preference.

I said what I said from my experience. 99% of the landscape shots can be done with 35mm. I also have a 10-20 apsc lens for my DSLR and honestly it doesn't get much usage.

The thing that can't be done properly with 35mm is cityscapes and interior stuff (people and furniture / decoration), but that's pretty niche.

Also, the whole landscape = ultrawide is pretty naive. For getting interesting stuff, a narrower fov is great. Check out Thomas Heaton's work on YouTube. He actually uses telephoto lenses for for landscape photography and it's great.

Yuri84, 21 Jan 2022"35mm lens" is too narrow to be the main camera, ... moreLol, 35 isn't too narrow. It literally is a standard lens.

When doing environmental portraits, it is close enough so that it can capture the environment but not wide enough to introduce distortions to face.

It is closer to what human eyes see and can isolate the subjects enough without blatantly removing from the environment. It can be easily cropped to 50mm fov if needed tighter framing.

It will also be excellent for videos (not vlogging).

It is great for landscapes, group shots, portraits, street photography, daily documentation etc. Other than wildlife and headshots, there's nothing 35mm can't do.

It's just that phone manufactures have chosen 23-26mm as standard because they are easier to pair them with current size sensors.

"35mm lens" is too narrow to be the main camera, and far too wide to be a telephoto.
So what we have here can be called 1.5x zoom, or "nonsense camera".

Yes!! 35mm primary ftw. Hope this trend picks up along with very high quality 16-18mm ultrawide and 70-80mm tele.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2022Some people suspect of 100MP. It might be a successor to IMX686 considering the name. (7 is the number after 6 (the predecessor of it was IMX586), they changed the last number, too, to make it sound consonant.)
So a resolution upgrade is quite possible, IMX586 is Sony's first 48 MP sensor for smartphones, IMX686 is its first 64 MP one, now this will be the first 100 MP sensor of Sony for smartphones. Fairly reasonable. And it will be amazing 'cause although IMX686 didn't get much popularity among manufacturers (they were much more interested in co-producing their custom sensors that time like Huawei have done for three generations), Asus worked wonders with it on Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders, even DXO verifies it. Therefore, I'm really positive and hopeful about this new sensor.
