Canalys: Smartphone sales in India grow 12% in 2021

24 January 2022
Realme, Infinix, and Tecno are the big winners in a whirlwind of a year.

Xiaomi has lost the plot in India. Mediocre products and tendency to only sell online is hurting them. Top leadership is simply stubborn to accept market scenarios post covid.

Realme is in a lovely spot, if Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus puts out pricey handsets, they still have Realme to rein in those customers. BBK still wins.

Employees were moved to work on other LG products.
Factories were same where other LG stuff is made.

It was not an apart division with own structure like Sony got from Ericsoon in Lund - SWE.

Lava makes ODM phones for HTC. The wildfire series.

TheLastOracle, 24 Jan 2022Indian Conglomerates like Tata, Reliance, HCL, Adani, Wipro... moreSmartphone business is very complex, if they can't make good pricing, software and hardware they become a looser in smartphone industry. In Usa and Europe also many conglomerates, why they don't have any of their own smartphone? Because they can't compete with Chinese manufacturers. Apple is lucky because they have their own OS or ecosystems.

Others category increasing by more than 100% !!!. That category probably has Apple.

Indian Conglomerates like Tata, Reliance, HCL, Adani, Wipro, or one of the many Unicorns should start manufacturing Indian Smartphones. They should start with acquisition of HTC or LG's smartphone division, and start with either targeting mid range or super exclusive top end. Most smartphones acquire the majority of components from various manufacturing, merely fabricating and optimising various hardware and software.
Micromax phones are mostly rubbish, and its shocking they survived the onslaught of Chinese OEMs, manufacturing in India.
Samsung apparently gain markets share after losing much to chinese OEMs. It needs to ensure its India pricing is lower than global markets, especially if it manufactures smartphones in India.
