Microsoft: Windows 11 well-loved, adopted twice as quickly as Windows 10

26 January 2022
Windows 10 and 11 now power over 1.4 billion monthly active devices.

I recently got a new laptop (5900HX, 6800M, 32GB RAM, NVMe SSD) and upgraded to windows 11 immediately because I'm not doing a major OS upgrade when I have a ton of important stuff on the laptop.

Windows 11, at least on these specs, runs well without any major bugs, except one time where the audio output wouldn't let me change the volume level without rebooting. I never really used Windows 10 because I was locked into the apple way for several years. Windows 11 imo is just as stable as Mac, and actually tries to auto-reboot LESS than MacOS. Man, it feels good to escape Apple. Windows 11 also does look and feel nice to use imo.

Anyways, there are a few major criticisms that I have about Windows 11. First, it uses 4GB of RAM on idle, 10x as much as Lubuntu on my other, 12 year old laptop. Privacy concerns remain an issue. Imo the start menu on Windows 11 is poor, Windows 10 had a much better start menu. Windows 11 taskbar sucks imo. And above all, WHY CAN'T I SEE MY BATTERY PERCENTAGE RIGHT ON THE TASKBAR?! I have a gaming laptop that can guzzle my battery in half an hour if I'm not careful, or sip it in over 10 hours if I am careful. Nice job copying iOS (my least favorite common OS) on that one, Microsoft.

Those mofos said that Windows 10 would be the last Windows so that to convince people to buy the licence en masse (instead of defecting). And right on schedule (once enough time passed) they switched.

Bait and switch like that lands you in jail unless you're a top 2 company in marketcap I guess.
Can't be reminded of the last cash grab of the level of Windows 11.

Things is literally reskinned Windows 10, people love to be fooled it seems like.

Such a distatestful company, one has to wonder how come they managed to stay on top for so very long. They never moved or shook anything. Merely adopted what others created and/or ran cheap scams...

Just "normal" users are misguided and then do the update. Anyone who has more knowledge on what he/she is doing and what is Win 11, won't install it.

Fact remains that for things to advance, there must be changes. And, in the course of that, there'd be some bad and not-so-good ones. And that's life and growth. "A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new."

Windows 11 is fine, the settings layout is far better than Windows 10s mess. It's quite good for its first iteration

I don't see any advantage to downgrade from W10 to W11, no performance advantage, the taskbar is better in W10, etc,etc...
W11 is fiasco like Vista was.

Win 11 is a totally stable OS and is in fact very nice looking. There are some minor bugs and inconsistencies. Other small things that changed are absolutely spot on and you never knew you needed them until they were introduced. It feels like these small changes were always there because they are quite intuitive. I only miss Windows mobile as a third major OS. I wonder how would it evolve.

Anonymous, 27 Jan 2022my processor is AMD A8-7410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics... morenope but if you already on windows 10 then you can "force install" it. there are some videos on youtube

It is a good OS. The design feels great. It looks kinda like windows 7 with rounded corners but also modern at the same time. Most kf the legace icons have been replaced while almost all of the buttons got the rounded treatment. It looks nice and clean for general users. The best thing is that it supports touch and using windows 11 with a touch screen feels more polished now. The snap layout feature is great. If you want more features then you can use Microsoft Power Toys. A great tool to enhance the system. The new store looks great, it now got softwares like Firefox, Photoshop, VLC, Disney+ etc.
I'm personally waiting for the Year 1 update though to fully move to windows 11 on my main PC. Year 1 update will make the design more streamlined with legacy apps like paint, notepad, media player, task manager getting a design update. Android support will be there while they'll iron out most of the bugs (they already have touched upon those in insider builds). Year 1 update will also bring more enhanced security (Windows Defender/Security is already great.)

''windows 11 is broken'' final decision. I use Intel, can't say for AMD cpu's but from what i know, is fixed that issue now. My pc is working like charm, nothing bad so far with W11
