S22, 01 Feb 2022But its written plastic back.Early rumors said the S22 and S22+ would both have plastic backs but now it seems they’ll be glass. Makes sense at that price point. Also, the S21 FE only just came out with a plastic back, so they need to differentiate from that.

Anonymous, 01 Feb 2022Issue here is, iPhones are not Android phones and as such, ... moreThe Samsung Galaxy S3 outsold the iPhone.
This spooked Apple so much that they abandoned the glass rear on the iPhone 5 and adopted a large screen.
In an alternate timeline, Samsung didn't screw things up with the S5 (just before the iPhone 6 nailed their coffin shut) and they remain neck-to-neck with Apple. Then they would have justification to buck some of the trends that Apple started in the flagship segment. Unfortunately, things are radically different and the iPhone sets the pace.
As such, you're wrong about the state of the market. The market is primarily segmented by price. In the flagship segment, Apple is the overwhelming leader and trendsetter. In the mid-range segment, Samsung and Xiaomi are market leaders and trendsetters.
If the population got $800+ grant each to spend on a phone, a plurality will opt for the iPhone. It is the quintessential flagship. It's kinda like TVs. OLED dominates the flagship segment while LCD continues to dominate the budget segment. That does not mean you wouldn't find $2500 LCD TVs.

fruitcake, 01 Feb 2022Will releasing these phones back fire on Samsung,as the S21... moreSamsung lost the flagship market game after the S5 debacle. Their last Hail Mary was the S8. It failed as did the previous attempt--the Note 7.
Now, they've thrown in the towel and are going through the motions. Product planners basically just take notes from Cupertino, apply them, then raise the curtains.
Expect the S23 to retain the front design, memory configuration, maybe the camera island as well; and only upgrade the chipset (and possibly one or two cameras).

Despite entire GSMArena fanboy community trying to convince everyone that no one wants iPhones because of iOS, there are literally people who buy iPhone BECAUSE of iOS. I'm one of those. It may have some stupid things, but it has so many things that I like done right that I don't care if microSD slot is not there or that headphone jack is gone. But if you care so much about that, you'll obviously go with phone that does. Surely there are still high end phones that have that. Right?

Anonymous, 01 Feb 2022To be fair, no headphone jack does suck. More than once my ... moreUnfortunately, those of you who do a ton of media capturing are in the minority. From Samsung's perspective, if most people have no issue using iPhones without microSD cards, why should they bother maintaining the feature in the S line when they sell far fewer units.
If enough people NEEDED it, iPhones should not be having increased market share in the premium segment YoY. Oh, and many use iPhones for video recording; they seem to do fine without expandable storage.
It's not like you don't have options. Rather than buy multiple microSD cards, you could get a bidirectional memory stick or a portable drive. I know m cards are comparatively cheaper and more convenient, but with rising component prices, inflation, shrinking sales and margins, you have to understand why Samsung isn't eager to support a feature that is only a deal breaker for a loud minority.
Same line of thought applies to other feature removals like the headphone jack and charger accessory. And very soon physical SIM slots. Conversely, it also explains why Samsung reverted back to glass on the entry S variant. Plastic may be functionally better (and cheaper); but most people want glass on premium devices; so they have to cater to their tastes rather than listen to the rumblings of the loud minority who prefer plastic.
Rest-assured, if Apple somehow manages to convince most people to give up glass for plastic, Samsung will make the switch too. In the premium segment, because of the ridiculous lead Apple has, they continue to dictate the direction now and into the immediate future.
In the budget segment, where Apple does not compete or are outsold (I mean A series vs the SE); a lot of these features remain.

Headphone jack is so 1979, when the first Sony Walkman was introduced. Wired headphones are easy to damage when untangled. I can't wait to buy S22 ultra 512GB model along with galaxy buds pro.

Will releasing these phones back fire on Samsung,as the S21 models did not sell to well, and the Rest now know what to offer what these phones are missing, and after Samsung announced the 200 mexa-pixel camera,Motorola will be using this one of its future phones, and will someone jump ahead of Samsung with the Under Display Camera offer,so there no use jumping in buying these phones to early,an if the Exynos versions suffers again, this might back-fire on Samsung,so wait till the reviews are out for sure
