Yes, "theoretically" they could use those trillions to build their infrastructure. But hell no, they won't do that, they love their money so much that they won't even use it, they got the smallest R&D/revenue ratio among big tech companies.

Of course, if Apple doesn't like that they can get a modem from someone else. The Samsung modem in the Google Pixel 6 supports US bands including mmwave. MediaTek and Huawei also makes modems. US's insufferable politics is giving rise to these nonsensical lawsuits which could have been avoided altogether.

It isn't easy to differentiate infridgement from fair use, but serious infridgement is basically like stealing intellectual property (ip), so these are definitely not unreasonable requests imho.

Apple started this because they wanted to pay less royalties, and it led to lawsuits between Apple and Qualcomm. They settled them in 2019, and Apple had to pay Qualcomm an undisclosed amount.
