Flashback: Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge corrected the mistakes of the past

The past, aka the Galaxy S6.

Sort by:

The S series only saw big changes after 2 years, like from S6 to S7, look at the S8 very big changes with specs. S8 to S9? no that much, S10 fix it and try looking at S21 to S22? just the same.

Using my Galaxy S7 today. Still going strong, love it to bits, nothing available today in this size that's even remotely affordable.

domraym, 06 Feb 2022One of the rare cases where a company sucked its pride and ... moreAudio was mono, something that not even s5 should have had.

My samsung ownership history.. Galaxy Y>> Note 2>>GalaxyS5>>S6 Edge>>Note 5>>S7 edge>>S8 plus>>S10 Plus... Until the s7 edge I bought them second hand and sold them second hand every 6 months to 1 year.. but when I graduated and got a job.. I bought my s8 plus with my own money.. oh the joy.. and now I am still using my s10 llus for 2 years+.. its the ceramic 512gb exynos model. Still good enough for me... I connect with samsung like no other fan probably.

WhyGoogle, 05 Feb 2022S7 and s8 were the last great phones samsung made, S10 was... moreSamsung still made good phones since the S7...

          S8
          S9
          S10e
          Note 8
          Note 9
          Note 10
          S21 Ultra
          Sxx FE series
          Fold series
          Flip series

And maybe since the S9 in 2018, they don't lag over time like they still did 5 to 6 years ago. One UI is better optimized than TouchWiz was.

We have lost things like headphone jack, microSD slot, IR blaster, and so on. But software-wise, Samsung has never been better than as of today. Multi-task on the Fold series is awesome. We get at least 3 major updates. Cameras have also improved although I still prefer Pixels for that.

Samsung is still making very good phones.

One of the rare cases where a company sucked its pride and backtracked. I owned the flat s7 and it was great. I avoided the green line of death of the s7 edge too. Only downside is the speakers which were somewhat muffled because of the water resistance.. This is the last samsung I owned since my country falls under the second class exynos variant. The recent exynos 2100 just might make me switch back..

Nexus One, 06 Feb 2022Owned the silver S7 edge and it wasn't one of my favor... moreSamsung started to use ufs2.0 with s6, but you still repeat s7 has emmc.

              Why?

Nexus One, 06 Feb 2022Galaxy S7/S7 edge gets overhyped like the HTC One M7 does w... moreBreaking news, new phone has more specs than old one

Galaxy S7/S7 edge gets overhyped like the HTC One M7 does when the successor was superior to it. The S8 and S9 were better like the M8 was clearly better than the M7 although M7 looked better than the M8 and was smaller.

Snap820 wss built on 14 nm. Snap835 was on 10 nm. Adreno 540 is 86 MHz faster than 530. The 835 had Bluetooth 5.0 and UFS 2.1. The 820 still had BT 4.1, eMMC, and UFS 2.0.

I still have my LG G5 and it stutters a little playing Dreamcast and PSP games while super smooth on my Essential Phone. Even transferring files from a computer feels way faster. Go on Nanoreview.net to compare SoCs and 835 wipes the floor against the 820.

Current phones really are better than phones from 5 to 6 years ago but we don't appreciate them because nostalgia blinds us and enhances whatever came out years ago.

                    Still have the S7.

Anonymous, 05 Feb 2022Remember when all of Samsung’s flagships had QHD+ displays?... moreOh, I remember.

The new Tab S8 tablets will be a refreshing throwback. With the exception of the LCD on the base model; 90% of the specs are the exact same once you account for size and related differences like battery capacity and weight.

It's a shame the Note 7 failed. Imagine what a S7 >> Note 7 >> S8 array of excellent devices and sales records would have done for Samsung's fortunes in the premium line. I don't see Samsung returning to its glory days. Smartphones have matured and for better or worse Apple won out in the end.

It corrected Samsung's mistakes in the past, only to make newer ones again with the latest models.

Anonymous, 05 Feb 2022Remember when all of Samsung’s flagships had QHD+ displays?... moreThe bigger model had the curved screen though, and it depends on the individuals on whether it is for better or for worse.

Owned the silver S7 edge and it wasn't one of my favorites because I despised the curved display. It affected my texting. Hence, why I'd pick a Pixel 6 over 6 Pro just because I prefer flat displays. I was in the market to get an S7 last year just to use my Gear VR headset again.

Snapdragon 820 was already long in the tooth perhaps 2 years ago. The Snap835 a year later is the better chip and was a considerable jump like going from iPhone 4 to 4S. You'll see stutter playing PSP and Dreamcast on the 820 but buttery smooth by 835.

S7 still had the outdated eMMC. The S7 will eventually get slower and slower as it got older thanks to the dying memory cells and TouchWiz not being as polished as One UI. I expect praises for the S7 and S7 edge due to nostalgia but I would never go back using one as a daily driver.

Anonymous, 05 Feb 2022These phones had worst over sharpening ever in camerasNot even close the amount iphone and pixel have used over the years.

S7 and s8 were the last great phones samsung made,
S10 was okay but samsung lost its edge.

I remember I had the Note 4(64 GB Note 5 didn't come to my country and buying it didn't make sense. It lacked a memory card slot and my Note 4 had a128 GB card in it) and was waiting for the Note 7 to come later on in the year. Never got it. That was why Samsung had to pull out all the stops with the Galaxy S8 the following year and it marked the beginning of the blurring of differences between the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series
