It's strange seeing Americans so engrossed by iMessage. Meanwhile in Europe I have a hard time getting people to drop FB messenger/whatsapp for Signal/imessage.

I'm sorry, but I think that having to notify someone that you are recording the conversation you have with them is so STUPID! What if the person you want to record is a pervert teacher and you want to go with the proof to the police?
"Hey, Mr Pervert, I want to record this as proof, BUT I have to tell you first or I'll end up behind the bars and you'll be free to harass someone else!"
Some of these laws are totally FOR the bad people (helping them escape accusations and sentences).
Just root you phone and you'll be able to record YOUR calls without any stupid beep or warning!

Software level security is easy to crack.. that's why big brands have higher level security deep down the kernel.. Next.. bugs are imminent, so are compatibility issues.. fixing them is not easy and needs a team.. No wonder your update comes months after the official android launch.. trust me, I have been in AOSP team... fixing all the issues.. update after update even with a team required lots of input and lots of work. Patching every hardware component requires work.. sometimes vibration will not work.. sometimes, camera.. random shutdown for some.. wifi problems for some in the same build.. Android is as beautiful as it is complex

But do they enable RCS by default? Other countries have had Google Messages as the default SMS app, but RCS is still not enabled by default. That's why there's practically zero adoption of RCS, since majority of people don't change anything form the default. Google is so dumb. How many times they have failed pushing a messaging service?

Never had a problem with hiya, its good at blocking spam msgs for me. Maybe its dependent of the region. Samsung is mioes better than googles boring messenger app.

A lot of US customers use the messaging apps on their phone and hardly ever get a new one. I guess that's why iMessage became so popular.

I lived in the Philippines for 5 years and not once did I use WhatsApp. Over there, it's Facebook Messenger, Viber, or mostly cheap unlimited 2G texting that's equal to about 30 to 50 U.S. cents for 2-3 days.
There are so many different ways to contact somebody if they have iOS or Android, who really cares? I use both Google and Samsung Messages and don't really notice the differences. The most important to me is the keyboard. The layout is generally the same on both.
