Anonymous, 28 Feb 2022You're right that the iPhone 11 is better than the upc... moreWhy would they make superior budget device that would eat away their profits on the higher end? And they aren't pretending about it either like all the other companies making 200€ phones that pretend to be 1000€ phones on the outside with bunch of useless cameras and high flying buzzwords everywhere. It's old design packed with latest chipset and OS. And that's it. Take it or leave it. As simple as that and makes perfect sense as business. Again, no one forces you to buy one. Would iPhone XR's design be more fitting for the new SE? Sure. But that's how Apple decided about it. It's not pretending to be something that it's not.

Why not make the 2022 iPhone SE have the same design as the iPhone 11? It can be smaller and have less features. It will be much more competitive.
It's most likely that Apple makes the iPhone SE a mediocre product because it doesn't want it to attract people who use or are interested in regular iPhone models. It's not good for consumers.

Anonymous, 27 Feb 2022Imagine getting a device for $300 that runs same chipset as... more"that runs same chipset as latest iPhone 13" The 13 Mini has the same chip and it thermally throttles. This has almost the same size body size.
"Show me just one $300 Android phone that runs at least Snapdragon 888 and gets at least 3 years of updates that isn't the size of a frigging tablet like all the cheap phones are." You keep on acting like the tiny body is a pro when it's a con. Hardly anyone wants a display 2 inches smaller than every other phone on the market. If they put properly small bezels on the phone it wouldn't be as much of a con but they didn't. Sony used to have a "Compact" model of quite a few phones they released. It always had the worst sales.
I'm not going to defend Androids here. They suck too right now. Qualcomm has a monopoly on the SoC market and they're cheaping out by using Samsung instead of TSMC. So every "high end" Android nowadays gets hot enough to burn your hands. Even Xiaomi and Realme hardly have any well priced phones anymore. Under display technology is being adapted about as slow as it took Apple to start shrinking bezels. But that doesn't mean I'm going to start praising companies for making horrible decisions like this.
"Clearly it's not for any of you specs obsessed people" Yet you seem to think the SoC, a spec, is a reason to get it.
"but there clearly is a market for such phones" "Sony used to have a "Compact" model of quite a few phones they released. It always had the worst sales."
"especially when they aren't yet another generic cheap Android phones." Wouldn't be an Apple fanboy talking without the classic meaningless brand shaming.
"iPhone SE 2022 will run A15 Bionic for sure and as a result it'll have better battery life than last one for sure, just like iPhone 13 Mini does and quite significantly." The two Minis were almost identical in battery life. The slight increase was due to the slightly larger battery that came from making the phone thicker and heavier. Why would you make a "Mini" phone thicker and heavier? You seem to believe correlation = causation. The increase isn't due to the chip.
On a somewhat related side note, the only thing I will compliment Apple on is claiming the A15 Bionic is still "5nm" when the A14 Bionic was also "5nm". It is a meaningless measure and neither is true, but it's better than Qualcomm claiming an increase in architectural efficiency every year even when switching from efficient TSMC to inefficient Samsung.

Anonymous, 28 Feb 2022You still don't get it. I'm not surprised, though... moreNo, I understand perfectly. You still don't. You want iPhone 13 features/specs in an iPhone SE. Apple does this intentionally and it's take it or leave it approach. You think it's old looking? Then just don't buy it. There is iPhone 11 for 550€ with better everything for lower price if you want better specs.

His point is that the new iPhone SE should use a new design, a better display, and a higher-capacity battery. It seems that you can't figure things out by yourself and need people to explain every single detail to you.

Anonymous, 28 Feb 2022Are you drunk or what? You don't understand his post at all.Maybe it's you who is drunk here. The point of such overkill chipsets is they'll hold great through time and chipsets are what matters the most. It's core element that drives everything. Having just 1 camera is not even a con. You don't think what you're going to use, you just snap photos. Battery is a bit on the low capacity even for iPhones, but they could mitigate that literally by using A15 chipset. Making it another reason. Not to mention it makes software support easier and people who buy such cheap phones usually keep them for very long which is yet another reason for overkill chipset.

So a powerful processor is the only thing that can keep it running well. The speed looks irrelevant now but after 4 years you will be complaining that the phone is slow. Because iPhones get long software support, they must have a capable chip as well

That’s just subjective, also you can only speak for yourself, remember that, you can’t decide what others want or what their needs are ;) for example i like compact phones and i have 13 Pro, what lot better options i had in that size? Heck what even one other option i had? :)
Clearly most people don’t see those other phones as better options because Apple selling over 70% of over $800 phones.

I honestly don't get why people want the latest and greatest SoC in their phones like it actually makes any difference to real world performance (in real world the A15 won't out perform a snapdragon 855). It's like going "well you need this v10 super charged engine with 600bhp over a naturally aspirated v8 throwing out 450bhp", got a top end speed difference of 15 MPH, which you'll never use and can do 0-60 in half a second quicker... POINTLESS METRICS!
In reality the A15 isn't any reason to get the phone nor does it really improve the phone over the iPhone 2020 A13 or whatever it is if its same design, battery and screen from what is an iPhone 8 from 2017 ... For £/$/€399. Its an ugly, outdated design with a terrible screen and battery (flat mate had one so seen it irl) and anything more for essentially a refreshed 2017 device is a joke.
