People here really have no clue about anything. Fab node helps, it doesn't make miracles. Especially when Bionic chips have far fewer cores (hexa core) than all the competition yet have performance way above everyone else and don't even use tri cluster deisgn like everyone else but 2x4 design which is seen on mid range Android chipsets like Dimensity 920. But has performance beyond SD 888/SD 8 Gen 1. That's not just TSMC's magic, that's chip design.

I don't have recent positive experience with mediatek. I know that 5+ years ago they were very bad and only for low and mid smartphones. Now more frequently I see Mediatek scoring more than top chipsets.
        Qualcomm, how did that happen??

You can't praise a company for doing average instead of failing for once. Apple uses TSMC. They've done so since the A10. Love them or hate them, their performance has been fairly solid and consistent due to sticking with TSMC for all these years.

Maybe the IDC numbers include tablets? They often use cheap MediaTek chips

rizki1, 02 Mar 2022Good job, they are growing a lot thanks to the G series whi... moreYes. But brnads should launch phones under 300-450USD with Dimensity 900/920/1200 in US market. Especially from One Plus and Realme. Mediatek will do well if they do so. If they leave this price category, then its game over for them.

Good job, they are growing a lot thanks to the G series which are found in many $100 phones, Which can reach 200k AnTuTu score!!!!!

And the brand new Dimensity is the newcomer who can fight qualcomm flagship.

Music to my ears seems like locking OEMs in 4 year contracts and being a super shady patent troll

Did not help keep Qualcomm in power

                    No more laziness Qualcomm

Good, the more and better competition, the better for all of us, in all domains. I'll wait for the first phones to use their top chips and hope for the best.

Anonymous, 02 Mar 2022Is this the beginning of the end for QualcommYes for sure, if they don't turn out to TSMC and bring on 7 Gen 1 chipset on 5nm from TSMC this year.

Now we also see Unisoc is rising with their cheap yet capable T610 T616

MediaTek is really in their rising year.

If Huawei can pull their Harmony OS, then it's not impossible that Chinese maker will go all out for in-house product. From OS, to chipsets.

Yet it was one of best chipsets at the time. People seriously need to s**t on Samsung's fabrication just because current chipsets from both Qualcomm and Samsung just aren't that great. But they always blame Samsung for it. Same reason why Apple's A Bionic chipsets are so amazing. They are designed that well from get go, top of the line fab node just adds cherry on top. It could still be crap despite 5nm node.

Well, Qualcomm has recently ended their relationship with Samsung, so I'm expecting a strong comeback from Qualcomm.
And we're still waiting for D9000 debut...

MediaTek is probly one of the best underdog stories in a minute, after being bullied for years by Qualcomm, they're finally given them a run for their money😂

If Qualcomm hadn't chosen Samsung over TSMC this wouldn't have happened.
